Review: Car and Driver "We Drive the Slate Pickup, an EV for the New Austerity Era"

I only know of it because of Family Guy, so take that for what it's worth...

Frunk Dimensions Measurements, Stereo & Speakers Quality (Sound Video), Impressions & Photos from Slate Huntington Beach Event on August 1

Thanks to everyone who posted pics! I've been binging numerous videos on Youtube but somehow the pics here do a better job of showing off the truck's minimalist personality. Hopefully VA or somewhere close will get a preview event soon, or at least an upcoming car show will feature Slate. Can't...

    Thoughts on my second thoughts

So this thread has me curious about what to do should I get the SUV. For a daily driver I'd prolly do 100 miles a day round trip, so I'd charge it every couple days. No biggie. Every year we drive from VA to Jersey via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel/Rte. 13 and eventually the Jersey Turnpike...

From what you have seen to date: what would you change / redesign?

I'd love the return of power windows. I know the whole point of Slate is minimalism but I would love a standard radio that's Carplay/Android Auto/Bluetooth compatible. Not the giant iPads that today's vehicles have, but something about the size of a smartphone. My fiancee's 2019 Elantra has a...

What'll be the first things you do when you get your Slate?

Sorry for quoting myself. Also plan to take my Squareback to Cars and Coffee. I realize this is prolly blasphemy to the muscle car and Fast and Furious enthusiasts, but I figure it could turn enough heads to wonder if I'm driving something from 1986 and then see it's a new truck.

    Open Air Kit price: $3950

Yeah I'm leaning towards purchasing in summer or fall '27 at the earliest. Stack my money and see the reviews from actual drivers.

    Questions about Open Air Kit

Good to know. I'm leaning towards the Squareback SUV kit, but when I click the Open Air kit option it tells me that the Squareback will be removed and default to the pickup.

    Open Air Kit price: $3950

Grew up "just getting by" but as a grownup I've had my share of unemployment or underemployment, where I couldn't even afford the $10 to get a pizza. That was more than a decade ago, and even though I'm in a much better position I still get paranoid about not having enough. Finally had to tell...

Test Drive Review: I drove the Slate truck. Its toy-like looks hide a surprisingly serious pickup (Business Insider)

I've got a '15. Just before Carplay became standard in most cars. And while I love my Camry - especially the physical controls - it beeps over every little thing, and that's become an annoyance with modern vehicles. So I'm intrigued by this truck for the low-tech capabilities alone.

What big answers are we waiting for?

What is the timeline for the proposed 4-door version? I love the 2-door, but now that they're considering a larger version I'd love to get one when it drops.

What'll be the first things you do when you get your Slate?

Same. Take my fiancee' and family out for a little joyride. For once in my life, I'd drive slow to get all the looks from curious drivers. And also because my mom hates when I go more than five over the speed limit. :CWL:

    Frunk Every Day Carry Suggestions

That would be a pretty cool little compartment for my photography gear. Stuff like my tripod or lighting softboxes, nothing super valuable. Maybe some emergency gear.

You Can Only Have ONE : "first song you queue up for your first drive"

This is usually my answer to any musical hypothetical. I definitely wanna blast this from my new SUV kit.

CarPlay / Android Auto Screen (Aftermarket Display)

I have a '15 Camry and bought a similar screen that mounts to my CD player. It works great.

4-Door Slate model plans confirmed - "We package protected for 4 doors"

Remember the OG Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo in the late-90s? The design kinda lives on in the current Passport and Pilot, but give me an EV version of something resembling a 99 Passport and I'm a happy man. EDIT: that top one's a first-gen. The second pic should be a 99.
