Rowboats seem kind of complicated to me, but a Slate seems like an appropriate canoe carrier as long as it's as reliable as a 4Runner (I don't even require superior reliability).

I think balanced reviews are getting much more rare. I used to evaluate vehicles as part of my job, according to a standard test procedure. It was fun but challenging. Reviews have become story-telling. I think journalists are trying way too hard to create some fantasy world for "enthusiasts"...

Might be best to just not engage at all. I think OP is smart to stop defending Slate. No matter what vehicle you choose, if you try to defend it people like to throw every argument they can think of at you.

Location looks good to me. I want maximum front to rear span. I doubt either Slate rack can match the 40" span of my 4Runner but the Slate rack with the bar on the cab looks solid and capable.

I think your numbers are realistic. I've spent some time in blue oval truck plants and if one can produce an F150 or Super Duty (1200 buildable combinations, 181 unique driveshafts, etc) in under a minute each then it's certainly realistic for Slate. Ford ran 2 10 hour shifts 6 days on high...
