Yes, that's what I was referring to as well. Since most aftermarket head units require a constant on, as well as a switched 12v to operate, for reasons you listed. Not the end of the world. And there are some options (like Carpuride) that would be a good solution with only a 12v switched...
Spoke with the support person on the slate site and they did confirm that the center channel is the power for the l/r speakers. SO I'm assuming the center channel will have some sort of left and right output jacks on it somewhere and the l/r speakers can be added at any time.
