You can solder wires to a garage door opener and run them to a button and avoid needing a power supply, just change the battery every few years. Mine seem to work a lot better hidden in the dash than attached to the visor too.

Other than sit in it, charge it, take it for a drive etc, the first and simplest mod I will do is hide a garage door opener in the dash, solder wires to it and run them to a button that I mount somewhere in the dash.

I think your conclusion might be right but your measurements might be off. The only group 35s I see are around 9 inches wide (228mm), depending on the brand. But I think the top post would be 0.625 or around 15.8mm. That should make your measurement on the width closer to 9in.
