  1. Day 3: "You Asked For It" Tour -- Put It To Work at Bowling Alley (@ Chicago)

So far: ☑︎Quick factory tour ☑︎You can tow a u-haul trailer ☑︎You can drive with things in the bed
  2. Road show planning

I see both sides of the argument. They are really smart people launching an entire vehicle brand. That takes monumental effort. But, the internet is for complaining, and if the complaining makes you feel better and doesn’t hurt anyone else, that’s something. I’m here for everyone’s honest...
  3. Road show planning

At the Portland event, I approached a group of people waiting for the test drive and asked “so, are you Slate enthusiasts?” They looked at me like I was crazy. After a confused silence one guy said they wandered up for a test drive. I was clearly the only forum member there at that moment.
  4. Road show planning

That's how I felt until I saw the Portland event. The way they set up the tent, the truck parked in the mall, the short drives mostly in the parking lot so pedestrians could see it: it was clear to me this was mostly about generating buzz to the uninitiated. The roadshows should continue if...
  5. Day 2: "You Asked For It" Tour -- Towing U-Haul Trailer / Helping Someone Move @ Indiana

It's simple. If they want to satisfy the forum, they just need to show us the truck hitting a ramp at highway speed and jumping over a ravine. Bonus points if there's a helicopter hovering in that ravine.
  6. How does the Slate turn on?

Just realizing: how are the doors unlocked? You can use a physical metal key, which I suspect is embedded in the fob and not easy to access. For most daily usage is it pushing the unlock button on the fob to get in? Touching the door handle with the fob in your pocket probably won’t be enough.
  7. Slate Key Fob Reverse Engineered - 3D Print File (STL)

Nice work, OP. Anyone have a good reason why the keyfob needs to be inserted into the dash? Is it just cost savings? I'm suddenly realizing that I can lock my keys in the car again rather than always have them clipped to my belt.
  8. The You Asked For It Tour -- 8 City Cross Country Trip w/ Slate Truck... announcement and taking requests

My challenge: ride for a bit with the doors off and the rear wall/window removed.
  9. Ride-Along opportunity in Portland, Oregon

Mainly that production models aren't finalized yet, so they're selling us a $25K product that we can't see in person. I get it now. These ride-alongs in the crowded mall parking were probably intended to increase public awareness of Slate. They were less about providing us solid information...
  10. Ride-Along opportunity in Portland, Oregon

I did my ride on Saturday and agree with @drluap. I’ve been riding a wave of hype for a while, and it’s good to have a reality check. I’m still excited for one, but it is not a redefinition of what a car can be. 25K is a big investment, and I’m no longer entirely convinced of the current...
  11. What drives the speakers - amplifier or phone/tablet?

I sat in the slate truck for the Portland ride along. They opened the dash and I saw two usb-c ports in addition to the 12v cigarette lighter outlet. they said the interior wasn’t final, so I don’t know if this will change.
  12. Ride-Along opportunity in Portland, Oregon

That seems like the first big piece of news that's come out of this event. Slightly worrisome. I already didn't have high hopes for fastback/cargo success because of the $30K price and the increased competition at that level. Additional engineering issues aren't great. I did sit in a stationary...
  13. Ride-Along opportunity in Portland, Oregon

I posted this in the other Portland thread, but I'll watch this one too: My test ride is on Saturday. I've started this google doc with the questions from this thread. That way it can be in a single location when we're on-site. If everyone interested in or riding along in Portland only posts...
  14. Portland Event

My test ride is on Saturday. I've started this google doc with the questions from this thread. That way it can be in a single location when we're on-site. If everyone interested in or riding along in Portland only posts in this thread, I'll update the document with answers as they come in...
  15. Ford Fathom EV Pickup ($28,350 Starting Price) - News & Info

One saving grace is that Slate is first to market. If you need fleet trucks in 2027, I'd bet more on Slate's release timeline than Ford's. Maybe they can leverage their Bezos' investment and sell some custom builds to the Amazon delivery fleet. I imagine a squareback with no rear seats and...
  16. Ford Fathom EV Pickup ($28,350 Starting Price) - News & Info

The things I see that are better on the Slate: Lower price. Ford lists a price now, but with so much global and federal turmoil, they could blame a lot for price increases in the next year+ Looks. The Slate looks cool. Every Ford truck could be badge swapped to another brand and any non-truck...
  17. Ford Fathom EV Pickup ($28,350 Starting Price) - News & Info

I agree with the above: good for ev adoption in the country, but bad for Slate. This press release does not have much detail except the price, name, screen specs, V2L, and the assist subscription. All the unwrapped photos we are seeing are just AI generations. It definitely feels targeted at...
  18. Will you need a test drive before you purchase a Slate?

Ok, poll added. Fair points all around: Driving a reasonably priced, mass market vehicle on its own probably won't be entertaining. Warranty and Lemon Law Buybacks provide ample protection for new vehicles. I would be very surprised if they had any test drives before launch. Maybe a road tour...
  19. Will you need a test drive before you purchase a Slate?

I'm a January 2027 delivery, and I'm wavering between excitement and hesitancy. I do minor garage fabrication and 3D printing, and the Slate offers many unique customization opportunities. At the same time, I always thought my next car would have blind spot detection, and no radio is a big...
  20. New Merch Added 07/31/2026

I've been following things pretty closely, but I don't know what foxtrot november means. FN? Edit: ah, I clicked through: "Everyone said the same thing: Freakin Nuts"
