I'm going to ignore the temptation to dive into the politics of federal budgets...
Instead, I'm returning to the theme of the OP. The removal of tax credit returns auto purchases (both new and old) back to fair market game.
Yup.
You just described a close relative of mine.
When buying his first EV, it was based solely on the tax credit and other subsidized incentives.
He was planning on replacing it next year but without those incentives, he's already planning to buy an ICE.
He's not happy but I reminded him those...
Yes, I agree there is a lot of interest in AWD vehicles. And yes, all the mods you mention are possible and you've certainly done similar ones to your earlier cars -- but you did not "buy a kit" for your Camaro that modified and then twisted to distruction.
Yes, this is still true today. Auto...
Yup, I would opt for a traditional console (like I have in my current car) over a bench seat, but I do agree with @cadblu regarding clutter up front like that. Speaking from my own observations within my household, it's not the console that causes clutter to accumulate, it's the person. (No...
I agree. I think people are seriously misunderstanding the complexity of an All Wheel Drive system on any vehicle, EV or ICE. Unlike the SUV cap and extra seats, an AWD is not simply bolted on the chassis. My whole life, I have done a lot of customizing on my cars. It is nearly suicidal to...
Thanks to all posts for reminding me why I don't bother following politics too closely.
In the end, it does not matter.
I will buy a Slate, not because I get a tax break, or even that it is an EV.
My Blank Slate will be just a truck. Anything not a truck will not included. So I will be buying...
I don't follow politics too closely, but I did just see an NBC interview clip where President Trump mentioned the EV credits are gone now.
It doesn't matter to me because I never expected any credits would still be available when my Slate is built.
I'm still planning to buy a Blank Slate when my...
@GeoLogic I agree 100% with your reliability point.
After all, ICE cars have about 75 year head start on EV cars.
You seem to understand the engineering complexity that goes into a proper controller of an EV. Most other people can't even imagine the magnitude of energy transfer that's involved...
It's not that easy "kit" to install another motor/axel assembly, modify the power supply, high voltage controller, regenerative braking, and host of other critical monitoring systems....
Yup. I completely understand.
I have been on Interstate 80 and Route 60 during snow storms and witnessed it myself when my SF friends and I took trips to go skiing in Sierra Nevada and other resorts.
Furthermore, I have also watch some of those drivers still behave stupidly even with chains or...
I understood that.
I think you missed my point (and Slate's point in their reply.)
The effort to design that option is not cheap.
The cost, the engineering time, and manufacturing configurations will add significant delays to the delivery of the first Blank Slate.
