Article: Slate Auto CEO Chris Barman tells us how exactly it’s making a $25,000 EV

I'm on the same page as you are, I'm skeptical of the removable doors. Slate's renders don't show much about what's going on in that hinge area. I've unbolted a door/hinges from a car and re-aligned it and I don't wish that on anyone. I've seen Jeep's bottom bolt hinges and it makes a lot of...

    Need FM Radio

Ford's early '10s era fleet radios feel like a good fit for the Slate. Nice and simple, if only the buttons were rectangular: I've got a spare junkyard 6-disc changer version that I pulled for someone's now-sold fleet F150. One of the contenders for what will end up in my Slate.

Slate's Entire Marketing Campaign is Completely Wrong

Richard Karn's not doing anything these days, I heard three pocket hose 360 ads from him on the radio today alone! I want an EV pickup, should I spend updwards of $60K on a Scout?

They've shown power door locks in the builds they have so far. So it's at least two wires for that. As long as you can cap off whatever connector they've got with something water-tight I would think it wouldn't be so bad, but we haven't seen them actually show off a real doorless Slate yet.

More Slate pickup white wrap photos

Ah, so they come off. I was worried they'd be flip-to-open like the other side and you'd have to keep them up for the speakers. Curious if the other side is equally as removable like that. Either that or it's a prototype piece that just fell off LOL. Edit: I see a seam where the other speaker...

    Need FM Radio

I'm no boomer or gen-X'er, I was 100% laser targeted by that flower-stickered Slate and that pickleball video, but I'm 100% on team "I'm gonna slap a radio in this thing no matter what." whether it's a double-din (ideally) or mount a radio under the dash like I'm adding one to an old...

I'm just happy to see someone else banging the Fiero drum, that's the vehicle I've been most comparing the Slate to. I just hope they can figure out a cost effective way to make those composite panels on the cheap. Even Honda went away from them on the last 3 years of Element, instead opting for...

Munro Live: Beta Factory Hoist Review of Slate Battery, Motor, Suspension, Underbody, Frunk, Body, Electrical System, Software, Safety & More

Haven't caught up with the thread yet but I'd like to add that Oklahoma of all places seems to have lithium. They're building a lithium refinery out there, https://stardust-power.com/. I don't think they're mining OK's lithium, but it's another step on the production line that's now US-based...

How much day-to-day technology is enough?

^This, my friend had remote start on his '99 Plymouth Neon. It can definitely be done with just a keyfob. The Slate also has physical HVAC knobs, so whatever the Slate 'preconditions' the cabin to is probably going to be whatever you have your HVAC set to. Unless those knobs are just spinning...

Is Slate the name of the truck or the name of the company building it?

I like to think of it like The Truck, by Slate. Still not as bad as Chrysler buying AMC, making Eagle, and then running out the last year of wagon productions as the Eagle Eagle.

So many posts about, will you still buy without EV credit [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

"With the EV credit gone, there's other EVs that are more competitively priced!" But I don't want any other EVs, I want a Slate. If the Slate doesn't materialize or the price balloons out of proportion, I'll just stick to buying random ICE beaters. My Fit is not long for this world and I'm...

Slate's Entire Marketing Campaign is Completely Wrong

Someone once told me a long time ago that the pitch of the horn was intentially matched to the size of the vehicle. Bigger cars always had the deeper horns and smaller vehicles always had the high pitched horns. Probably coincidence but I've noticed that in my own car ownership. My Fit and Geo...

How much day-to-day technology is enough?

If I can have android auto on a radio with some halfway decent speakers, that's all I care about. I won't bother with the app unless they hide some readout behind it that I need to look at (like how some OEMs lock TPMS numbers behind it for some reason). I'll be first in line for "how can I...

    Dash cam kit

I'm a die-hard Dashcam believer, it's going to be one of the questions I pose to Slate if they ever call. But I'm fine with them just offering a bus bar of switched hot/grounds that I can tap into. If they put one up by the mirror for light-bars / dashcams that would be perfect for me. Ford put...

DIY vs OFT (Open For Theft)

This, the anti-theft of the slate is going to come down to how cheap Slate can make replacement parts. It's not as much worth the hassle of stealing a body panel off of a Slate if you can get a plastic fender for $50. My dad's had trim ripped off his LandCruiser because it's getting hard to find...

Slate's Entire Marketing Campaign is Completely Wrong

I have been at odds with how the Slate has been marketed from the start, the instagram influencer videos, the short vertical video clips, it's all going for a market that probably would be more comfortable in a Honda Prologue or Subaru Crosstrek. The Rich Rebuilds video was the first time I've...

New video in SUV mode w/ 4 adult passengers

My Geo does the 'do both with one handle' and it's very annoying. You recline the seat forward and it unlocks the rail so the seat can slide forward, guaranteeing you lose your seat position every time. I make the back seaters get out the passenger side. Shorter drivers might be able to get...

Place Your Bets! (actual blank Slate starting price contest)

I'm willing to wait on getting my order in until I find out more about pricing and motor they decide to use, etc. Will help me keep getting the cash together too. The later they push that date back the better, I suppose.
