No, not really and not important.
When it comes time, Slate will contact you to convert to an order.
My past experiences with reservations of Ford and GM EVs have been a crap shoot..
Every model had some type of algorithm that puzzled a lot of reservation holders.
I hope you are right about Slate.
Hope they beta test in the field with real drivers.
The first gen EV Ford Mach E had some huge issues that were both hardware and software issues.
Some were never resolved and Ford pulled out those features in later year models.
Those first year owners felt...
How do you propose to tap into the HV battery pack ?
Never heard of anyone tapping into the HV pack - I'd never do it - too many problems with potential fires, shorting, BMS module damage, etc...
The cables are sheathed in orange tubing which indicates high voltage when first responders cut...
A small LFP battery independent of the EV's 12V will prevent those parasitic load drawing issues or discharging faster than the HV battery pack to recharge causing your EV to not start or unlock.
Step down ?
All my radio gear takes 12V (13.8VDC rated).
Be very careful with aux switches and adding on extra loads to the 12V battery in an EV.
EVs I have seen have a tiny 12V battery as they are not needed for cranking / starting.
EV 12V batteries in almost all brands are the "achiles heel" for multitudes of issues.
My Ford EV uses a small 35AH...
Owned 3 EVs and all do require heavy load rated tires as a minimum.
You can't just get sale or cheap tires at your local shop as the load rating must equal or exceed which causes the choices to restrict and prices go up.
As to size, the larger the wheel size, the less rubber between the...
Be careful with the RF key fobs these days, as thieves here locally have found a device to mimic your key by "cloning" yours if it's nearby or else rolling a sequence of digital RF keys to unlock and steal your car.
Happened so many times at our local Pasadena, CA archery and fly fishing club...
I got 2 EV credits in 2022 ($7500) and 2023 ($3750)..
Middle income, state government, W2 - so I guess I qualify.
Since I am retiring in a year when the Slate is coming out, if the tax credit was still available, I might not be able to capture the entire amount....
That's a bummer!
From a Ford EV owner, yes, that's correct.
My 2023 Ford EV came with 3 years of: navigation, remote app control, maintenance reminders, BlueCruise self driving, and fast charger location services.
After the 3 years are up, then the owner has to pay annually or monthly for those services.
I...
Based on other EV brands - reservations does not equal orders.
Ford F150 Lightning EV truck had about 45% order conversion.
GM / Chevy EV trucks had about 20% conversion rate (due to higher prices and late production).
Slate I would estimate at around 60% due to the price point.
I would love 17" wheels & tires - best uneven terrain absorber.
Can even upsize +1 or +2 on the tire to get more cushion.
20" might look better, but is not good for pothole strewn streets.
Wow in a similar comparison, that's like me trying to order a Ford Lightning EV for $39K (Pro trim) but needing all the extra stuff (bells & whistles) for a $100K (Platinum trim).:surprised:
I ended up with a Lariat trim for $70K
Back in 2021, when the CT was rumored, there were lots of people who placed deposits for the CT but since it didn't materialize, most got the Ford F150 Lightning EV.
Wonder how much a power window option will cost ?
I'd never really need it as it will be a commuter EV.
Reminds me of the Ford F100 manual truck I learned on with manual windows, manual side mirrors, no A/C and choke throttle knob!
You actually have a working E53 ?
My 2001 E53 was long gone by 2005 when the repairs became excessive.
The worst were the rear tire camber that wore out 20" tires like TP.
I did love the traction - the 60:40 front rear power was amazing - true road magnet!
Even though Tesla's model for delivery eventually ended up working for most of the nation, this should be interesting how each state handles this type of transaction and what pitfalls Slate will encounter.
Towing a trailer would kill your range.
F150 Lightning EV truck owners are reporting 50% or more range loss towing a class 3 trailer.
Then another 25% range loss in the winter.
EVs are not made for towing (yet).
100% agree!
My RWD EV (Mach E) got a 1.5" lift springs installed by Eibach for 2 reasons:
1. Increase chassis height to clear the doors opening along a tall curb.
2. Change ride suspension feel over rough terrain.
Luckily, I never need AWD or 4WD living in urban Los Angeles.
Here's my Mach E...
