I read this book when it came out. It's an eye-opener! Turns out self-delusion is everywhere you look -- and even places you don't look.
There's also a podcast with all 316 episodes available for listening. The early episodes cover the basics. The the content is brilliantly produced and...
Just an observation....
People want their favorite feature included by default.
It's human nature.
Every buyer pays extra for the feature whether they use it or not.
Slate Automotive is laser-focused on building a factory and shipping a product.
The OG Slate Truck will be for Early Adopters...
That, and more.
They're "systems thinkers" designing a vehicle knowing that people will want to enjoy a sound system that sounds great.
Forethought vs. afterthought for a better-sounding result.
I think the slate not coming with a radio is throwing people off.
Eric Kyper specifically says "You know, we know people are going to bring insane audio systems to this" in the Rich Rebuilds video.
I interpret that to mean they're making sure that, one way or another, we can have good audio if...
Thanks for posting.
Single DIN
Um, we've designed that if you want to
bring a radio in, the design of the
center, um, storage bin area fits for a
single [DIN], so you can bring, you know, a
radio in, but we've also developed an
app like most people today. You just use
your streaming audio and...
Like I wrote before, I fully understand.
Confirmation Bias is a thing.
Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, and remember information in a way that supports one's existing beliefs while ignoring or dismissing contradictory evidence. This bias can lead to flawed...
I found what led me to believe Slate might be developing an infotainment option that has good audio quality.
About 40 minutes into the Rich Rebuilds video Eric Kyper says this:
You know, we know people are going to bring insane audio systems to this. Our accessories team is dialing up some...
It seems as though some people who want AWD really jones for the feature.
Most probably don't actually need it, but they want it anyway. As someone who's owned his share of 4x4s I fully understand!
It can't be a dragster, a rock crawler, or a schoolbus.
It's also wouldn't be a good vehicle for a Traveling Salesperson who drives 400,000 mile a year.
Meanwhile they're offering a Unique Proposition small truck that works for a lot of people's needs and can be anything within certain...
No conondrum(sic) at all.
I think "eliminating whatever isn't necessary" is in the company's DNA, and extra time and effort to make AWD optional in the original RWD Slate Truck isn't necessary.
Making AWD optional requires extra time and expense, even for the vehicles that don't have the option. Instead they're making the OG model RWD only.
Paraphrasing Eric Kyper, he said "We want to get this RWD vehicle to market. There will be future offerings with AWD".
It's the YT transcript rather than a summary. Emphasis is mine, though.
I don't think the OG Slate Truck will be compatible. They simplified it out in order to get production started ASAP. Just speculating, of course.
There's discussion (and a related poll) in another thread.
What he said about AWD was:
We are 100% focused on making sure that we get this to market. [...] Uh and of course over time we're looking at what the additional uh portfolio could look like. So we will have a slate portfolio of vehicles with additional features that um may or may not fit right...
Makes sense. My frame of reference is all-terrain/off-road tires. Some sizes of a specific tire vastly differ (in various categories) compared to other sizes.
Thanks for providing your insight.
"Cash-flow positive by the end of 2027" (possibly paraphrasing) is what I saw.
That's impressive.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but cash-flow positive and profitable are not the same thing.
Edit: AI says...

I wasn't suggesting 17" for autocross.
I think two topics might be getting tangled together.
o What wheel-and-tire combination is best for autocross?
I was imagining that when tread width widens aspect ratio can drop, keeping the sidewall at some optimal height. In the NASCAR example, where...
I'm sure a lot of thoughtful consideration went into choosing the bed length. Without a doubt longer lengths were considered.
Personally I'd prefer an extended cab and would trade away some bed length to have it. They didn't do that either.
I was presuming the OE tire would come off either way, so the cost difference is negligible in that case.
Why ditch toe OE tire? Because based on experiences I've had, upgrading to better tires, even if they're the same size, can make a big difference.
The common-sized brand-new take-offs can...
