I wouldn’t expect lock/unlock or on/off for free, unless they plan on using Bluetooth? (Which would be silly, your keys range is similar or better than Bluetooth.)
In all modern vehicles as far as I’m aware, that’s a wireless function (think cellular) that requires connectivity via a third...
With the only caveat that Chris has said they intend to be profitable (or cash-flow positive, I forget what word was used) from truck #1- so they won't sell even early models for under cost to produce.
This is a forum to discuss the Slate, on a thread discussing canceling reservations. It’s interesting to see why people’s sentiments change, from launch to now. It’s not random people coming into the forum to bash Slate, it’s people who have been supporters since the start. No need to have the...
Getting very close to share your sentiment. Slate says it is trying to compete with used cars, and, if the "truck" form factor isn't important to you, it does not!
Absolutely screaming deals on EVs right now. Every used EV is pretty much 40-50% off MSRP even with low low miles. The Slate will...
Minimizing external funding does not benefit the consumer, only the PE firms invested in the company. I want a good product output. That benefits the consumer.
This is such a softball for the company it’s almost hilarious if they miss on it. Myself and I’m sure many many customers would be happy...
Agree. There are so many third parties that make great double din Carplay displays. I don't understand why Slate wouldn't at least offered a "preferred vendor" with option for install from the factory. Look at the backlash around Tesla, Rivian, etc. for not including Carplay. It is so obviously...
Integrated Android auto/carplay solutions are far and away a better solution, but Slate has shown no desire to offer reasonable support for that, so we shall see...
BYOD (tablet or phone in a mount) brings heaps of problems that don't need to exist, we've already figured out how to do this.
Of course. In the same way this forum has a collection of "semi-public" info- other Mfgs have similar "cult" followings that get a lot more out than the manufacture publishes themsleves.
One google search yielded https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2026-rivian-r2-electric-suv-interior-review this as the top result... It is no less than the Slate interior has been shown.
Both this and this are over a year old. Rivian is not hiding their car at all.
Back to the original point. Any fan of the Slate should be a fan of other vehicles competing at similar price points, whether it be the Ford truck, Nissan Leaf, or whatever else comes along. This competition benefits the consumer in all instances.
And now we can look at a little something called sampling bias. Valve (parent company to Steam) does the hardware survey. It reaches their client base. Who is their client base? Gamers. Gamers are objectively on the high end of technical aptitude. Many build their own PCs, do upgrades, install...
Maybe this is true for OEMs, but look into Scout, which is on a further out timeline, but has more info out. Rivian and Tesla take this approach too.
For a vehicle that is hitting production in <12 months- there isn’t much info.
Now compare Fairphone sales to iPhone sales.
They sell ~100k annually. Less than the slate trucks target. And Slate has done nothing material to demonstrate the “right to repair” beyond saying that they will.
All that to say…. If you break into 100 households, and open their laptop or PC. How many are running Linux?
The “big wave” was more of a speed bump
To play contrarian... If you sampled 100 people on their confidence for two companies to deliver on their promises, one is an established auto manufacture with 120+ years of experience, and another is a startup with limited cash runway...
I think we know which would get a majority of the votes.
Yep, this is pretty much how it works now, although primarily with dealers instead of home swaps.
The packaging requirements are rough. Hard-sided container, fire blankets, labeling, etc. It basically requires a forklift and rigging to an extent. Maybe you could figure out a way to do it with a...
