Interesting comment.
My fellow truck owners and I use our trucks as daily drivers, not work vehicles.
We have talked about this OEM topic a lot.
You also mention the Ford Maverick (the pickup, not the 1970's car) -- probably the most mentioned non-Slate pickup in this forum.
None of my friends...
Snow?!
Where?
Up here, we call that a dusting.
But that's okay.
I learned to drive during the winter in a rear-wheel-drive coupe.
When the going gets slick, we''ll put the chains on!
Yeah, I agree with you.
I wanted a simple truck and the bonus is that it's intentionally built for the DIY market.
Hmm...
🤔
I think I'm on the wrong forum.
When I look at the rest of the posts on this thread, it looks like the "looking for an insanely cheap EV" forum.
So, where did the "Slate...
I would still consider myself lucky.
While the cost will pinch me for a bit, it's not like I dropped a $100k on a Fisker Karma or other luxury EV.
Unlike all the other dead or dying EVs, the Slate is intentionally a DIY truck with a very simple design. I'm looking forward to tinkering on my...
@Yukon Cedars , I think understand your concerns about radio wave broadcasts vs cell phone for communication -- especially when the poop hits the fan.
We'll be able to install our own AM (and my preference of GMRS) radios and use Slate's power. I plan to do that for myself in my own Slate --...
Yup.
I balance my minor concerns regarding Slate's long term sales and production over a naive hope in 3 possibilities:
Slate's fleet sales will overshadow individual sales to consumers like me
Some non-EV auto maker will purchase Slate as a new division to their existing ICE portfolio (a...
Yes, I know those cheap ICEs exist, but I am in the market for a simple affordable 2 door pickup truck.
The Slate gets bonus points because it will be easy for me to reconfigure it as I wish.
Thank you @E90400K for the details.
Like you, I've always believed that number was from the perspective of Slate's final assembly plant in Warsaw, Indiana.
And even from that Warsaw perspective, Slate's approach is still an industry leading simplification.
I couldn't believe the US Patent would grant a patent for this.
So my doubt caused me to follow your link, and...
I'm still in shock it was granted. :surprised:
@AZFox Thank you for your time researching this article and for analysis on this and many other postings.
This statement of yours in the middle is so very true.
I think this statement is where the thread should end.
I simply don't believe it is logical to make tight comparisons between EVs and...
Hmm... That's not quite the complete intent of this thread.
As the original poster for this thread, my point was Slate's assembly approach and simple vehicle design (and associated DIY options) are so favorable that I would still buy a Slate if it were an ICE.
Unfortunately things go twisted...
