Every Lightning owner I've seen comment about it says they love their truck. I don't want or need something that size but it made me slightly jealous; I wish someone would make an EV version of my favorite car that was so excellent.
Ford canceled it (for now) because it was less profitable...
It really depends what kind of improvements are available, as you note. Every ten years there might be some significant ones. In ten years I expect sodium-ion batteries that cost less than a grand per car and solid state batteries that cost, perhaps, quite a bit more than that for quite a bit...
I believe that's the point. Slate picked 1000 lbs and then engineered to that number, instead of picking 3500 lbs and engineering to that number for more or less the same cost.
This is about the 12V battery. I don't expect Slate to put extra impediments in the way of normal maintenance like other carmakers. (Remember that thread where some guy needed expensive software to replace the brakes on his Ioniq 5?)
If Slate offers any ability at all to replace/upgrade the...
Openpilot seems to have synergy with Slate -- they both have the do-it-yourself thing going on.

The car I wanted before the Slate was an EV version of our Prius C. It's the perfect form factor for us. The Bolt comes closest, but is a bit big, and I trust Toyota quality more than Chevy.
Maybe the forthcoming Corolla EV will be available as a hatchback. But of course, it won't have the...
Seems like a great move for Ms. Yeager. She basically gets to do the same job for the third time, learning from whatever mistakes she undoubtedly made along the way.
And for Slate: the number of people who have had success as leader of sales at multiple startup car companies in the USA can...
Looks like there might be room to the left of the steering wheel for a cell phone mount. That would be nice.
I wonder how many recessed storage cubbies you could put in the spots where those blank plastic pieces are on the dashboard.
Who is going to be able to fit the most cupholders into...
Terrible and terrifying.
I wonder what the smallest, least-impactful way to comply with these regulations will be. I suppose they need to be finalized first.
I anticipate a market for defeat devices.
* inexpensive
* not big
* ev
* ease of repair/modifiability
* minimalist design philosophy
I don't actually need a truck, but nobody seems to be making this in any other form. Maybe the Slate 2 will be a 4 door hatchback.
