I will say, of all brands, give Tesla their deserved credit. They have opened all their service manuals to the public. They are for the most part, very simple. Especially model 3 and Y. Parts are cheap and now readily available. Service mode built into the screen for diagnostics and codes...
Even just the basic radio on the wrangler/gladiator platform before the big 10” wide screen thing is $800 reman, $1,000 (leaving aside used, but I just sold on evay an 8.4” nav radio for $700). The nee larger radio in then, which is modest compared to some cars these days, and it’s not terrible...
My "complaint" with Chinese EVs in the states is it will be another throw away product, packed with subscriptions and data harvesting. Sure the american brands data farm too, politics aside, the more chinese products/cars we have here, the more eyes we have on us from products directly funded by...
Places that lack diagnostic techs are backlogged due to lack of being able to get a car out the door. Every dealer (normally consists or higher trained diagnostic techs) around my area is painfully slow for the last 3 months or so. The 3rd party shops I've noticed has now stated to follow suit...
The reason that paint peeled is because of poor prep. The issue is with painting the Slate panels is the are supposed to be softer more flexible panels. So really outside of say the Sayurn from many many years ago, no in the industry is using that durable material, ezcept those poly bunpers...
My honest and slightly hopeful guess is "production" (off the assembly line) units will be available early Fall, and in reviewers hands, along with demo units for test drives, and media rounds. Then by say December, November if we are lucky, units are ready for customers.
Ask local shops you do work with around you to sign up. Everyone is dead right now, almost no shop is going to deny a program that gets more people scheduled and in their doors.
Most companies take like 5 years minimum to make profit, some decades (lot's of tech companies are this way). To see...
Anything can be painted, it's longevity that you have to question. There is a company that paints the mold in black textured Jeep fenders here. Mind you the plastic fender flares on Jeeps and Broncos are painted on some trims as well.
I fell you might be spending a little too much in research...
The "correct" way should be driver rear on every vehicle. Normaly cars are built to be that way (import cars that are normally sold in LHD markets you'll see on the passenger side). This should apply for ICE and EV in my opinion, I get why some like the front plug location, but besides at home...
Not related to retro, but Ford already reacted to Slate by trying to release a sub-30k truck. Dodge also reacted with CEO asking "do we really need to include infotainment?" in an interview.
This is the real thing I see Slate doing, making other brands question what is needed in a vehicle, and...
Oh same! I just don't get the attitude of people on a forum dedicated to a vehicle that has only been known for about a year, and people, on that forum, are annoyed the vehicle is "taking too long" and "not enough updates" are coming. Wait till you see YouTube comments... I totally want my Slate...
Personal isn't all the insurance is though. Went from a used 2013 Dodge Dart, to a new 2018 Jeep Renegade, the insurance was half on the Jeep as the Dart, same provider, no other changes. Went from the Renegade to the Gladiator, and insurance only went up about 5%. Vehicle type (car, suv, truck...
Seriously... People are praising Scout and Telo, yet they have been around 2 to 3 times as long as Slate, and have produced a fraction of a percentage of actual progress. But somehow Slate gets ridiculed like they have done nothing after only a year.
