Same, and when it was finally an attainable thing it was too expensive. plus my 2017 Volt was doing just fine, and still is honestly. I miss having a pickup though, and the Slate fits my needs perfectly with the added benefit of being able to transform into a small SUV if I need to move my...
No, I think they are going to send something out to every reservation holder. I didnt have my address in their system which is why I think some of us got the email.
Update from Slate regarding the question.
This is what i asked...
" Good morning,
I know that the blank slate is not going to offer any automated driver assist systems other than the basic ones that are required, automatic braking, etc. I am curious if Slate has thought about working with, or...
it isnt so much that people suck at driving, they do, but there are too many distractions to avoid, phone, billboards, radio, our stupid emotions, other drivers, kids throwing candy at eachother, for us to be able to focus 100% on driving that makes us bad drivers. Computers are statisticaly...
you are not great at jokes... but I did check after I replied... I didnt find anything that confirmed your claim so I assumed you were "joking"
I did send a message to Slate to ask and will report back if Ihear from them.
People suck at driving, computers dont get tired and are getting really...
Telo, while a nice option, doesnt appeal to me looks wise. it is also going to be significantly more expensive. but i do like that they are going with comma.ai, I had not seen that.
I think the beauty of Slate is that it can be whatever the owner wants it to be. I want it to be a small EV pickup that has some modern tech in it that doesnt cost more than my first house!
while doing some more background checking on this i found that Aptera is integrating with the comma.ai openpilot system. I dont know much about Aptera or how they integrate openpilot into their vehicles, but there is at least precident in the market to adopt this solution...
The comma.ai system uses an eye tracking camera as well, https://comma.ai/support#do-i-have-to-pay-attention " When openpilot is engaged, a driver monitoring system actively tracks driver awareness to help prevent distractions. The openpilot system disengages if you are distracted. Drivers must...
It is not an apples to apples comparison, but there isnt much that is. Im also not saying that Slate needs to endorse it in any way. It would just be nice if they didnt get in the way of the team that will bypass their efforts to block it.
I do believe that if Slate was open to partnering with...
if Slate is going to allow us to install rear seats and airbags (SUV Kit) on our own then they should not have issue with us adding driver assist systems. DIY is what is exciting about Slate.
As others have said, this would be an aftermarket accessory that just uses the existing hardware in the truck to function. Think of it as a lift kit, performance tuner, or aftermarket radio, not something that Slate needs to build into the truck as a factory option that would increase costs...
you are absolutly correct that installing it would put the liability on the driver, but that doesnt mean that we shouldnt be able to make the decision as the owner of the vehicles. Its not much different than adding high horsepower mods or lift kits that drastically change the vehicles...
I for one would love to see the slate be compatible with Comma.AI, it does not mean that slate needs to do the R&D or even have the compute built in to acomplish some self driving tasks. But it should have some of the required sensors since it will have auto braking, and likely have electric...
