Drive Unit / Motor supplier appears as Cascadia Motion (BorgWarner) in Slate prototype video

The photo is definitely of the Test Mule Vehicle, not the production prototypes. Cascadia Motion is not a high volume manufacturer of Electric Motors. Most of what I've seen them do are niche or low-volume commercial vehicles. Not to say they couldn't ramp up, but they were likely selected as...

Just got this email from Slate: SIGNED. SEALED. DELIVERED?

Got the email too. Said I was Reservation #000001 šŸ˜Ž

    Range Extender

IMO Range Extenders (EREV) makes sense for larger EVs (3-Row SUVs and Full-Size Pickups). Battery EVs makes sense for Mid/Compact and smaller vehicles given current battery technology. Opt for the Long Range Battery in Slate and you’ll be fine for 98% of driving situations.

Plug and Charge functionality and Slate Networking

By the beginning of 2027 all Automakers ā€œshouldā€ offer Plug and Charge that automatically authenticates payments. However… to make ISO15118 PnC work the vehicle needs to have some kind of Connectivity, to pass along a secure certificate to the EV that the EV Charger recognizes when you plug in...

Nissan to buy Batteries from Ford/SK On JV

Nissan (and Slate) have signed agreements to buy Batteries from SK On. Nissan’s batteries will actually come from a BlueOval SK plant. Kentucky #1 will start this year, and they have KY #2 and a Tennessee plant under construction. SK On has two plants in Georgia and a JV plant with Hyundai...

Are you actually going to BUY the Slate Truck without a Test Drive?

MAYBE It depends on my situation in early 2027. I predict a mild-recession followed by a comeback sometime in 2027

Chargeway - the app you'll need

Slate will have to sign an agreement with Tesla like other OEMs. offering the NACS plug is basically using SAE J3400 standard and allows the Plug to work - but to use Tesla’s network they need that agreement. My guess is they announce in a few months to keep in the news cycle.

5-Seat SUV conversion kit? Or sticking to pickup only?

AGREE. Hopefully they just sell a Fastback Shaped Cap - without all the cost of Seats, Airbags, Seatbelts, etc. I want to leave the Bulkhead behind the Front Seats and just flip up the Rear Glass so if I have dogs in the back they get AC/Heat.

    NMC -vs- LFP Batteries

There is not a supply of LFP Batteries in the U.S. Suppliers like LG Energy, Samsung, Panasonic and SK On (Slate’s supplier) all bet on Nickel Cobalt (NMC, NCA, NCMA) for higher energy density but other drawbacks. Gotion (Rivian’s LFP supplier) tried to build a plant in Michigan, but it became...

    No Rubber Ducks! Slatelets OK

As a Jeep TJ owner (2001) I F#$&ing HATE DUCKS. It’s mostly a thing for newer JK and JL owners who don’t know how to Wrench. …sorry, but I really do hate it (to each their own)

    User replaceable/upgradeable battery?

According to The Verge article by Tim Stevens, the Extended Range Battery is not a different Pack, it is an Add-On (additional) Pack. So they add a 2nd Pack. Slate would not allow DIY High Voltage work, but every else thus far is fair game.

What are your personal MUST HAVE Add-Ons/Accessories for your Slate?

I'm sure you all know what Slate comes with standard. You've seen various options and accessories that can be added. What are the things you could not live without and would add immediately? Me: Heated Seats (not Cooled), Bluetooth Dual-Speakers, Fastback (would not install the Seats, just...

    Question about the body panels.

My guess... the reason the base color is Black/Gray is they are using Carbon Black as a UV protectant for the plastic. I do wonder if over years it will turn lighter? I have an old Jeep TJ and the fenders discolor after years in the sun. I just give them a light coat of black paint but they...

Questions: Why market as a truck? Does Jeff B know something about the future of the tax rebate?

Personally, I don't think Bezos even remembers half the companies he is funding. šŸ¤‘ Have you seen his Yacht (with sales) and the "Support Ship" (with helicopter pad). But seriously... America loves Pickups (that can also be an SUV) more than Cars/Hatchbacks. Pickups (and Jeeps) are highly...
