Slate Open-Air Top -- "The cherry on top is no top" photos

The 20s and beefy tires definitely make it. I saw essentially this variant on the steelies at Newport and to be honest it looked pretty dinky. Props to Slate for an honest baseline presentation, but if they want random people to really notice and then desire the vehicle, it might pay to dial it...

Pics & Impressions from Slate showing in Denver today

Sounds more like a DIY VW Harlequin concept. Individual cars were built as solid colors, and then ā€œscrambledā€ together at the factory. This one is a red base: Car and Driver: VW Harlequin Love me some BMW art cars though. The Warhol M1 is my favorite; I visit it every chance I get.

I hate the dashboard!! (and I propose a redesign)

Hopefully the rep misspoke. Electrohydraulic is almost *almost* enough to be a deal breaker for me. The less fluids involved in the workings of this vehicle the better as far as I’m concerned. Maybe I’m traumatized from my time spent dealing with it on R50/53 MINIs, but they were noisy, leak...

So many posts about, will you still buy without EV credit [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Exactly! ā€œWhy get a Slate when you could get a Bolt for $blablablah?ā€ ā€œWhy get a Slate when the Maverick has four doors and you can get one for free?ā€ (exaggerating, slightly) I don’t want an ICE Maverick, and I have ZERO interest in a Bolt, I don’t care how cheap it is. I’m sick of ICE...

Is Slate the name of the truck or the name of the company building it?

Yeah, I remember watching a video that referred to it as ā€œthe as yet unnamedā€¦ā€ It seemed odd to me. Like, you’re expecting a name? Why? It’s the Slate Truck. That’s it.

Received my gift in mail from Slate Auto - concept sketch

I was happy to get it. I keep folders on all of my vehicles; now I can start a Slate folder. Hopefully I’m not jinxing it, but for now at least, it feels that much more ā€œrealā€.

    Fender Flares Widen Stance?

She didn’t actually answer your question. You asked about track width, her answer refers to wheelbase. Or she’s using the wrong terminology and I’m reading it too literally.

Give me a blanking plate and I’ll delete my passenger side mirror. Kick it old school REALLY base model style.

    What was your first vehicle?

ā€˜86 XJ Cherokee with the 2.8 V6 and 3 speed slushbox. Least desirable drivetrain of all the XJs, but I loved that thing.

So many posts about, will you still buy without EV credit [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

The more I look into the Slate (youtube videos, playing around on the configurator, etc) the more I want one. Pretty sure I’m in even without the incentive as long as they can keep it under $30k.

Are you actually going to BUY the Slate Truck without a Test Drive?

Same. I had a Lightning Pro reserved, except I never even got an allocation. Then they jacked up the MSRP and I was out. I want basic, and I want good value for money. The Pro was a lot of truck for $39k.

Are you actually going to BUY the Slate Truck without a Test Drive?

ā€œYes, butā€¦ā€ They need to hit their pricing target (or close to it) for me to buy it blind. I’m expecting it to be pretty crude for that money, and I’m ok with that. An increase of say, $5k or more won’t necessarily run me off, but I’ll need to lay hands on it and be suitably impressed first.

    Introductions & Welcome Thread šŸ‘‹

I swore I wouldn’t jump on the EV train until solid state batteries came to market, but if they can deliver what they’re promising I’m ready to play ball. Fingers crossed. Go Slate go!
