If you zoom in on the pic, you can see the piece of plywood they drilled the rails to.
I believe the screws into the wood, not rails to wood, are going into the bed to secure the plywood to the bed. Are they existing holes? Not sure.
I would have to find a pic of a bed with no mods.
I did get a cool bag and got to speak to several of the Slate folks. Nice bunch and full of knowledge of their product.

Since the first of the year, there have been no scheduled vehicle tours and zero mention of a actual production date. Considering all early estimates had production dates for late this year, I find that concerning it's crickets thus far this year.
