I think a lot of people feel that way. Slate has been very open from the beginning but I think people saw $20k and then kind of ignored everything else that was being said. Like you said, reality vs what we wish for.
In my dream world, there will be a cage so the dogs (goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc) can have heat and AC. That cage will have a door / pass-through for when the animals are not in the back so we can reach our snacks.
I don't view a small utility trailer (<2000# total) as needing a "Tow Vehicle". We have a big truck for doing real towing. I'd consider a small utility trailer firmly in the "city runabout" capability range like our 120HP Transit Connect.
Not saying who's right or wrong, just an observation on...
I've already accepted that I'll be happily overloading my Slate when towing. I'm not towing on the freeway up the mountain, I'm getting a load of hay / straw / mulch on my 5x8 utility trailer from down the flat road.
If the Slatelet thing catches on, I'll be making a sign saying "No Thank You!" I'm not saying no one should participate, I'm just not interested in trading plastic. I know several Jeep owners that are trying to figure out how to NOT have ducks.
I've converted my golf cart, lawnmower, and two shed solar systems to LiFePo4. I would be a shame if I couldn't do the same with this. Heck, give it room for a 100ah LiFePo and there will be tons of available swaps with "high" current capabilities.
I'd love for the V2L to act as a split-phase 5kW generator. Then I can use it on a job site or through the house's generator connection. Fingers crossed!
Our current farm utility vehicle is a 1999 EZGO electric golf cart. Mud tires, a limited slip differential and a lithium battery upgrade makes it surprisingly capable but not perfect. The land is flat so I don't have to worry about terrain issues. In my perfect world, I'd have a small electric...
If they made an AWD version, I might own two of them. One would be a lowered, enclosed cargo version (which is what I need) and the other a lifted, open 4x4 off-road version (which is what I want). Bonus points if the AWD can tow 2000#.
Interesting. I assumed the reduced SKU number was something like a 10mm x 25mm bolt being one SKU. There might be 100 of them in the truck but it's still just one SKU. I hate working on things that have a bunch of similar but different bolts. I want to use my 10mm socket for everything...
My take away is that you don't think an EV is appropriate for this scenario, period. So your point is that Slate won't have those customers because they won't be looking at ANY EV, not because of anything related to the specific form factor of Slate.
The rest of the discussion is simply whether...
This is me. I want a cheap EV truck / van. I wish it would tow 2000# but I might be able to make it work. If Slate doesn't come to fruition, I'll be "stuck buying" something else because I "don't have any other choices." Perfectly stated.
While I agree this is silly, I don't think that's a bad thing. Creating the aura of customization / modification / artistry only helps expand the audience, in my opinion. For instance, the nuts and bolts things that I'm interested in are not the same as the "arts and crafts" that my wife is...
Since this dimension zombie thread was revived, does anyone know the bed loading height? Said another way, with the tailgate down, how high do I need to lift something to get it into the bed?
Kinda? Do I step out in front of a car going 50 mph and expect it to come to a skidding stop? Of course not but that's not the same thing as having the right of way. (It's also not what you said above so maybe I misunderstood your intended message.)
If I make it obvious that I'm trying to...
In my area, I'd have to walk a half mile in one direction and a mile in the other to get to an intersection controlled by a traffic signal (or stop sign, or whatever, etc.) I'm glad I can still use the crosswalk by my house though.
