I understand some people bowing out who want to add on the SUV package and the 'full time' SUV people being pushed away by knowing there will be the added SUV pricing, but for me especially, this IS the SUV I wanted.

These are the SUVs I want, and the Slate gives me all of that in a modern package (with stability control)

Edit: I'm considering just the top without the seats if we do get a proper 'cargo' top with windows. That'd give me a reason for rear speakers...

Meh, that's a Bronco 2 with a non removable roof. I always wanted a Bronco, OJ style, with the removable roof (less murder though). Slate is like that, but smaller, and electric. I also always liked the square bodies.

I was going to include the Bronco, big Blazer, and the Jeep Golden Eagle, but those far out-size the Slate.

There's a Cherokee Chief in town that I consider the pinnacle of the big two door SUV.

In high school despite being a Ford guy I really really wanted a Tahoe in green:

With an EV powertrain! And non-rusting body panels, which is always the doom of old Broncos and Blazers around here, not to mention the Jeep:

It makes sense if they limit the power of the 150kw motor down to 135 for the standard range battery, especially if they are trying to offset a heavier LFP battery in the base range model.

Personally, this is going to be a base range truck for me upon purchase, but I expect to later purchase the open-air kit for mountain road excursions with buddies. I just want to learn how much time and effort the swap will take and if it’s easy to reverse it back and forth.

I was thinking that' too, but Slate isn't going to have a DIN slot standard, although I'm sure one will become available. Now I'm thinking about the flexibility to put whatever size/shape screen I want wherever I want, and I'm leaning towards a 9.7" x 3.7" screen on top of the dash right behind the steering wheel. That way when I'm checking the nav screen it's right there. But I'll need to see the actual vehicle before firming that up. I've already got a 12V amplifier from some prior project (I think I can do without a radio); decent 6.5" speakers are available for <$30 a pair, and with that I should be good to go. I do want to put the speakers in the doors, and I think that's doable from what I've read.
Slate told me there will be a accessory kit to install a radio. Probably a double din but you can find good deals on them too with CarPlay or Android auto. I put one in my Canyon ( it only came with an AM radio)I think it was like $190 on Amazon with bluetooth, navigation and GPS built in.
If the Slate app is available through Carplay that will be the route I go eventually.

I am optimistic that Slate will have some staying power with this truck at that price point. I see a lot of fleet Maverick’s on my commute in to the city everyday. Many with caps and ladder racks, all with wraps identifying the business. For a small business, total cost of ownership has got to be very important and will drive businesses to these Slates. Looking forward to having one in my garage and seeing them on the road.

Hopefully Slate will continue to dispense tidbits to keep everyone talking about Slate until 6/24. Several articles written today about $24,950. That is cheap marketing.

The fleet mavericks I see mostly have only one or two people in them also, so no real need for a back seat.

I wonder if they had to change the battery packaging method to achieve that higher tow and cargo capacity.

I literally had a chat with my pest control guy this morning about fleets and Mavericks and Rangers and Slates and whatever. He's getting another Ranger. He loves my Maverick, and he looked at one to expand his small fleet. But he passed on the Maverick because you cannot get a 4wd locker. He explained that, here in the WNC mountains, he needs lockers just to get up some customer driveways.

He obviously cared about cost, and about dealership and OEM service and support - this was huge to him. Ford will service his fleet at his place of business for no extra cost. That saves him hours, which equates to cash. He was also very aware of the cost of fuel. Oh, and payload really matters. Because he was hauling around a lot of heavy stuff in the back.

Obviously in the flatlands a fleet operator would not care about 4WD lockers. And a whole lot of fleet operators would probably be happy with a Slate - very light duty cases.

Glad to see no surprises on price, now I just need a delivery window before end of year.

Hope they deliver on Slate University and providing access to parts and repair/modification documents. One of my biggest reasons of interest in the Slate is their stance on right to repair and claims of support.

I'm used to modifying the crap out of my vehicles, normally working against the manufacture every step of the way...

If it comes with the frunk full of shrimp sign me up for 2!

Obviously by lots of the comments I see here and in other places people are unclear to the intended purpose and audience the Slate is meant for.
If it is not what you are wanting, that is fine, it was probably never meant for you. For you? I suggest you give the Slate time to evolve, it needs to walk before it can run, so to speak.
For those of us that it meets all our wants and needs, congratulations, someone finally heard you.

I wonder if Slate will offer up a pick up option at the factory for those who live close or are willing to drive there to take delivery? Maybe even a fly in and shuttle service? A visit to the Slate store for some merch with all the money saved not having it transported… Make it an event for all the fans that have been patiently waiting. I think that would be cool.
