Gotion assembles the PACKS in Illinois for Rivian today and will add jobs to support Slate.

Prismatic CELL production is done overseas (you know where). Elimination of EV Tax Credits eliminated the need to produce more in America.

Gotion had plans to manufacture Cells in Michigan but political battles and policy changes killed it. Last I recall Gotion, the State and Local Officials were battling in court over cancellation fees.

I didn't catch that they're getting the LFP pack from the same people that make the LFP pack for Rivian! That's actually slightly concerning, since there's been complaints about the BMS strategy on those Rivians. LFP being tricky to manage due to the voltage curve, this isn't unexpected, but some manufacturers seem to be handling it better than others.

I think much of the Rivian LFP issues came from its BMS and it being a much larger and heavier battery.

All LFP batteries will be slammed by cold temperatures, though it was especially bad for the R1 since the battery itself, the cabin, and the total drag is so huge. Coupled with only resistance heat, this combo reaped terrible range drops in freezing temperatures.

The BMS calibration issue was real, with Rivian telling owners not to drive below 20% because the true zero 0% was difficult to estimate given the flat voltage curve of LFP. This artificial floor is much worse than the artificial ceiling of NMC since you can end up stranded even when you believe you could drive another 40-50 miles.

Hopefully the Slate with its small cabin, lower total drag, and relatively small battery does not suffer these problems.

Very good info!

Hopefully Slate engineers will use their own BMS programming / modules.

I for one would love LFP - warm climate year around and I always charge my NMC to 100%.
