DIY approach. Go source a rim with matching lug pattern and same tire aftermarket.

Not just lug pattern.

You'd want to match the lug pattern, center bore size, and offset.

Selling the customer a tire+wheel makes a lot more sense.

If the spare matches the four tires it can be used during a tire rotation.

The tires that will be on the Slate are not (currently) available to retail tire customers.

Something rattling in my brain: after I buy this thing, I'll need to do my own rotations until I replace them. I've done it before, but always with a spare. I'm going to have to learn about jack points and be careful about this. I hope they clearly outline it. Not used to having a big old battery under there, and I suppose that's the last place you'd want to make a jack point, no?

Certainly, jacking points have been included in every owners manual I have ever seen.

Hopefully Slate will publish an owners manual soon.

Not a silly question at all. I asked the very same question of the Slate team. There reply was that an option to purchase the tire and rim would be made available on the maker in the near future.

I bought a Renn Stand to use to do tire rotations on my Teslas. Since there is only one jack point per corner you cannot put a conventional jack stand under it while you lifted it with the jack. The Renn Stand solves that problem. I have an adapter for it for Tesla and a different adapter that worked on a Nissan Leaf I used to own. I am not planning on having a spare on the Slate, hopefully just a different adapter for my Renn Stand.

The problem with that is, you are already paying $500-$550 for the mount. Adding the tire and wheel really complicates things.
Then it would likely be at least $800 or more and that is only if you have a factory set.
I think they are doing the right thing.
Keep it simple.
