Anyone planning alarm / anti-theft system on their Slate?

The Slate is definitely going to attract some attention in parking lots, especially during the first few years. There’s also been some concern about how easily the exterior panels and accessories can be removed.

Anyone thinking about adding an aftermarket alarm, motion sensors, GPS tracking, or other security?

What security measures are installed at the factory?

Not really.

Maybe I’ll throw an AirTag in there, if I was moderately concerned?

Or, I’ll put a tiny sign on the driver’s side window that states: “Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again.”?

Seems a lot for plastic panels and a $278 double din CarPlay device?

I don't see the need for an alarm. Passive RF is not vulnerable to the remote relay attacks that are common today. I guess it could be technically doable, but the attacker would need to be within millimeters of your fob, at which point they might as well just steal the fob.

A few of my cars came with antitheft alarms, but they were never activated. I don't frequent high-crime areas. Around here, I think thieves know people are armed and that the sheriff supports self-defense. Besides, I don't see a small 2-door pickup being a major target. Mine's going to just be plain white too, which will simply blend in. Distinctive (I would say ugly) trucks like Rivians and Cybertrucks I think are far larger targets because they stand out. And have larger resale value.

The body panels can't be removed using only the exposed fasteners..

I think the telematics unit has GPS in it. Perhaps they'll use it in the app.

I think I'll maybe go as far as a front/rear dash cam with a backup battery and parking mode. Personally, front facing dash cams are the minimum for any car I own. People are freakin' nuts (heh) on the road.

I've watched Project Farm and LTT reviews and I am firmly a stan for Viofo dash cams. The A229 front/rear would be my pick for the future but I have the A119 front facing right now. Disclaimer, the A229 also requires a separate hardware kit if you want parking functionality.

I'm hoping to do something similar but have never had a dash cam so I know nothing about them. Do you have any recommendations on brands or features I should look into?

Theoretically the telematics module could provide any movement of the vehicle if the key is not present. I have LoJack on my cars, the early warning feature does this. It will alert any number of devices I ask it to if my vehicle moves without my key fob in the car. Might be a reason to consider the module.

I figured if one was clever you could wire it with one of those fancy switches on the console? Haven’t thought that through yet

@PNWEng here you go! You just want a high quality camera sensor, many many off brands use an older model that doesnt perform well at night. Viofo has a newer sensor.

I'd probably go for the convenience route with the windows if/when they become powered. Lower/crack the windows to cool the truck whenever. Auto-raise the windows during arm, no waiting. Remote smart if you don't want the telematics module.
