Anyone planning alarm / anti-theft system on their Slate?

Here's the problem: My neighbor sets his truck alarm off almost every day. I know it's coming because I hear "Chirp.....chirp......BLAM BLAM BLAM" and so forth.

The neighbors are so tired of it, they don't care. His fifty thousand dollar truck could be taken in the middle of the day, and there'd be no witnesses.

Meanwhile, if I set up a different alarm on my truck, I'd know if it was being messed with; So yeah, different chirps for different folks works for me.

I probably won't do an alarm. I haven't had to have one for my Mini. Is it a risk? Everything is a risk. But I've heard so many car alarms and not one was a valid scenario.

It worked in the original Gone in 60 Seconds where they wasn't able to steal one of the cars because it had a Tiger in it.

Then the thief really mess up when running away by leaving the car door open so the Tiger was able to chase after him!

Slate's Secure Key Ignition Module might actually be pretty good.

Early on they said there would be a "Secure Key Ignition Module" that relies on a physical, not NFC, connection from the fob to the slot in the dash.

Unlike conventional push-to-start systems or traditional keyed ignitions, this system requires the driver to insert the key fob into a dedicated slot on the dashboard to start the vehicle. Once inserted, the fob passes a secure electronic code to the vehicle’s control system, enabling the motor to engage.​

All indications are that it's still RFID. However unlike other RF systems that are "always on" and sense the presence of the fob anywhere in the cabin, Slate's RFID reader is very short range and is activated by a mechanical interlock that's depressed when you physically insert the key. That should make several common types of attack more difficult.

The Slate is definitely going to attract some attention in parking lots, especially during the first few years. There’s also been some concern about how easily the exterior panels and accessories can be removed.

Anyone thinking about adding an aftermarket alarm, motion sensors, GPS tracking, or other security?

What security measures are installed at the factory?

I’m going to use an old iPad for the the screen. I’d like a lockable glovebox to keep it in. I’m not sure how the Slate app works with it. Maybe preconditioning on the way to a DC fast charger?

I like the idea of a dashcam, too. There are too many crappy drivers in the Columbus Metro area. It’s worth it just for insurance purposes.

It would be cool to have something that could mount to the roof and have a motion sensing camera in case anyone messes with the doors or the bed.

How would one steal a Slate?

Google says this:

I'm pretty sure no one pays attention to car alarms, even though they seem to be rarer. There is one lout who's alarm goes off by my house around 3am every couple of months.

I've got the Elevation Labs 5 year battery compartment for an AirTag, but I may pick up a 10 year battery compartment for another AirTag.
Get two AirTags with extended battery case, place one in the Slate truck itself, and another on the SUV portion of the kit.

Will also explore the two camera dashcam with parking mode.

It’s more likely to be broken into by someone looking to steal a firearm and gives away any element of surprise. It can also be used to indicate premeditation. Not advisable IMO.

Agree. They don’t know if you are packing or the truck is packing, so they might have to find out by doing their own “independent inspection”.
