Are the second row seats required for the fastback?

Hey everyone, basically the title is my question. Can the second row seats be removed in the fastback? When I reached out to Slate with this exact question, the response i recieved was only telling me about the "cargo kit" for a "true work truck experience"... which was never my question and made me a little confused as to what a "work truck experience" is vs having an actual work truck since when I hear "X experience" i think "pretending". I have high hopes for Slate, but theres still far too many questions and concerns for my personal usage to put money down yet.

If anyone has any answers I'd be delighted to hear.

That would be my hope that they'll be easy to remove if i got the fastback style from the factory. It would've been cool if the second row seats were part of the configurable options.

I wanted to reach out because I had a question that I haven't found an answer to on the forums or the builder; but I'm wondering if the second row of seats are removable on the fastback version of the truck. I like the thought of the two seater fastback design with the almost full size cargo capacity and the covered top incase i need it. I'm sure as more is revealed over time this question will be answered or even something obvious I missed. Looking forward to great things from this company! God bless"

Looking back, im sure the person replying picked up on the key words "two seat", "full size cargo capacity" and "covered top" while trying to get through responses and the "cargo Kit" was probably on their mind. I like giving the benefit when possible, but still, the response threw me off 😆.

From everything I've seen and heard from Slate, you definitely should be able to do that. The question will be if they plan to sell the fastback top by itself.
If you're just talking about removing the back seats after ordering the fastback? Then that shouldn't be a problem, just unbolt them.
Unless something changes, the rear seats don't have airbags or sensors built into them.

Since it looks like the rear seat folds flat and fairly even with the load floor in this picture, would you really need to remove it to haul cargo?

Maybe cut a piece of carpet or rubber mat to protect the backs of the seats.

I think the issue is that the seats are going to come with the fastback, and you will have to pay for them regardless. Just don't install them, and then sell them on eBay maybe.

The square and fastback kits come with the seats, cage and top. Fastback comes with a different half hatch (that's why is more expensive). There is an installation sequence, if I remember correctly is the cage, seats and top in that order. The car will detect the sequence. Now with that said, not sure if you can leave the seats out to install the top. That's a question for a Slate reps. Or you can go with the cargo kit, no seats no cage, no side windows.

The thing is, I personally hate the look of the cargo kit as well as the square topper; which is why I'm interested in the fastback and the rare times I'll haul cargo. The rear seats for me are completely unneeded weight nor will ever be used. AZFox linked a video which I hadn't seen until now that has the configuration of the fastback, no second row and keeping the half partition installed. If that's doable in the final, I'm super interested, lol. I think the coolest thing about this vehicle is the customization and personalizing of it for our needs or wants. There's still some things that put me off from putting money down, but once released I'll try to find a way to test dive one. Thanks for the responses and suggestions, they're all solid.

Are you sure the back seats have no occupancy sensors or something for the seatbelts?
