The solution is simple: Slate could do a Limited Edition "California Special" that has some cheap graphics, Slatelets, badges and interior logos and charge $1,750 more. That effectively passes most of the cost on to CA buyers, but they still save $1,750 and get something "Special" in return.

I have an idea to do an AI "California Special" Edition but don't have time. Maybe one of you could take a stab at it?

It can be just a simple SB168 Slatelet that anyone can add for $1,750. 🤦 For California folks, it will get us $3,500 off the OTD price. We are still about $175 short because of taxes on the full purchase price. Beats $0 rebate.

Ya it’s still only $1750 off but sounds good to me.

If Slate did not opt in to match, Californians get zero rebates. If Slate opted in to match, then Californians get $3,500 off the total OTD. Buyers in all other states will wonder how Slate can afford to take $1,750 off the same trucks that they are paying full price for. They'd want $1,750 off their trucks too. The margin has to be the same on the same trucks, right? We don't want protests outside of the Warsaw factory demanding fairness, equality, and more.

I want a normal truck at the stated price. But I don't always get what I want when and how I want it. If I pay $1,750 for the rebate "accessory," my OTD is $26,187.34 after the rebate. Without the accessory, my OTD is
$27,783.59. I am willing to pay $1,750 more up front to end up paying $1,596.25 less.

If anyone thinks that I am losing $153.75 in the rebate deal, it is a reading comprehension problem. 🤦Only a small group of Californians will protest outside of the design studio in Gardena demanding a refund of $153.75.

I am inclined to believe that Slate has opted in. This rebate will help convert a lot more ICE drivers to EV.

I don’t think at this point they can, but if they did that would be great! $21500 would be an extreme deal.

That would be logical. I suspect Slate would not opt to participate is a $1750 discount unless fleet order?

Off topic: I’ve been driving around SoCal this week on vacation and have been amazed at the LACK of EV’s. In my mind, I thought it would be 25%+. There are more Teslas per capita back home where I live in GA! If all new vehicles in CA must be EV in 4 years, there would need to be a dramatic upgrade of electric grid. But it would take an additional 15 years for all the used ICEV to work themselves out? Today’s gas price in San Diego is about $5.67.

Most if not all of Amazon delivery vehicles are EV’s and I would love to see UPS do the same, as they’re still use gas and the stop and go’s really have poor fuel mileage. I am the last of the boomers(1964) and have a classic car and motorbikes along with a 2023 Mini Clubman. I did a trip to NorCal last weekend and used CostCo fuel stops to save money. Plus I timed my every two hour stops and they averaged from 20-30 minutes stop to go time. Jump on a charger with a Slate, when needed, plan like a pilot does, and this trip is doable in the Slate. 👀🐢

I gotta tell you, I LOVED SD! I googled what other CONUS locations had the same climate...Santa Barbara! That's it! So, we languish in this high humidity squalor on the east coast. Looking forward to visiting again.

The state EV credit would help increase sales in California. Although the state generally has in income limit that excludes many EV buyers.
I don’t think people are going to protest Slate participating in the California market-the reality is that no EV company or EV vehicle product will survive without California buyers. California IS the EV market. So hope that every other home in California has a Slate in their driveway because it will guaranty that Slate stays in business and can continue to sell vehicles at a low price with a low margin.

Correction on my comment above, after looking up the EV credit program there is no income requirement. $270 million available which is probably 75k to 80k new EVs. Only available to “first time EV buyers”. So if you are on title for your California EV and your wife isn’t she could be the buyer. Many of us have had multiple EVs so we don’t qualify. But looking at the Forum participants It looks like a lot of potential new EV owners-so all in all it is a good program to attract new owners to EVs.
