California: SB168 passed for $3500 instant POS rebate! $21,450 for a base Slate ? Anyone know if Slate will participate ?

Note all of those listed are legacy automakers who fund BEV loses with ICE sales… except Rivian who benefits from Volkswagen ICE sales (and Amazon van sales) and isn’t a Slate competitor.

I don’t think Slate has the gross profit, much less can afford the hit to net income, to participate.

IMO, Slate buyers will be Slate buyers regardless of price and dealerhip buyers will likely remain as such.

edit: This pot of money will likely be gone before the Fathom ships.

I'm not sure that it matters.

The model year needs to be 2026 or earlier for automakers not headquartered in CA. Slate Truck will be 2027. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Rivian and Lucid are also exempt from price caps (not so Tesla).

This has the potential to most benefit Rivian R2 buyers.

Agree.

In the Big Picture it would do more harm than good.

They won't sell more vehicles by doing it if they can sell every vehicle they can produce without doing it, which I'm almost certain they can.

If you want to know how well EV Rebate Programs help profitability, ask Ford.

At the recent Slate event in Huntington Beach, I asked the spokeman about the rebate. Unfortunately he said they still know at this time which I feel he had to say to not hinder preorders but I honestly feel it’s gonna be a no go for the rebate. I think they would have gotten confirmation about the rebate

Tesla sold out their rebate allotment in five days. Hyundai and Kia still have some and. IIRC Toyota and Subaru’s don’t begin until September.

That list ends with vehicles that will launch in November, Slate will not be selling by then unless they are holding back for a surprise. If Slate joins, it probably would be announced shortly before order conversions start.
Yes, those companies are using their EV sales for carb credits to balance their ICE sales, but other ICE manufacturers need credits too, and they can buy from those like Slate who have a surplus.
The in state HQ restriction only applies with vehicles with an MSRP $50k+ so that was never an issue for Slate.
The only way I see Slate participating would be by funding it with those carb credit sales, but those might already be budgeted into their profitability plans.
