Camper Shell concept for Slate pickup

I currently truck camp in my F-250. I'm probably going to see the F-250 when I buy the Slate. For me, the real problem with a camper shell in a Slate is it's range. The extra weight of the camping gear and supplies would likely reduce range. You'd have to keep it fairly local or be able to plug the portable charger. I'm not sure how many Level 3 fast chargers there are in rural areas.

The aero improvements from the camper shell would probably make up for any range loss from the weight.

Ken's rendering is very cool. From years of experience tent camping on the ground, if you have your vehicle available to mount a rooftop tent -that is the way to go. Drive into the campground in the dark and set up the tent in minutes. Downsides-range loss and having to climb a ladder for those late night outhouse visits.
I've seen some do the reverse. from mounting the tent on their vehicle. They mount their tent platform on their little sport trailer so it is easy to get in/out. Also when back home they don't have to remove from truck or car since the better RTT's are heavy! Can be left behind at the campground without folding up while you head out to explore. They often put kayaks etc on roof rack with bikes in bed of truck.
IMO a Thule or other established name RTT is worth the extra cost since you can get parts for them and appreciable warranties.
But there is a lot to be said about not having to monkey with a trailer of any kind. Take it from a guy who has logged thousands of miles towing all over the Midwest. And surprisingly you'll learn the shorter/lower the trailer, the harder it is at times to back up into some spaces.

The Render is "cool". Problem is, people talk about renders as if they are about to come to market but they never do...cuz they are " renders". To take a render to final product is like "all ya gotta do to make a moon landing is build a rocket and launch it". It aint never as simple as drawing the picture.

That doesn't mean the render isnt cool or that the designer doesn't have insight. It just means the peanut gallery needs to pull back from treating it like something on Amazon that can be dropped in their cart. It can't. It's a wet dream. WAKE UP peanut gallery.

I designed this camper shell. This is a modified and improved version of the one I did several weeks ago and posted on Reddit. The height inside is about 6'-2". The floor space is bigger than a queen size bed.

I have always loved the idea of this type of camping. No tent to mess with!

In Texas a MUST! LOL. Run a generator to a small AC window unit. Had a brace/cut out to add that!

If you're in the dry part of Texas you can run a portable battery powered swamp cooler.
