Carvana has been granted the option to invest in Slate Auto, the electric vehicle startup backed by Jeff Bezos, according to documents obtained by TechCrunch.

Paperwork filed with Delaware’s division of corporations shows that the online used car retailer was given a warrant to buy shares in the startup in 2025 — around the same time Slate Auto was starting to put together its $650 million Series C funding round.

It’s not clear if Carvana has exercised that warrant, or how many shares it is allowed to buy. Carvana declined to comment, and Slate Auto didn’t respond to requests for comment on the deal.

The transaction with Carvana comes as the retailer is looking at ways to expand into new car sales, according to the Wall Street Journal. The company has reportedly purchased a number of Stellantis dealerships across the United States. Asked about new car sales on a recent earnings call, CEO Ernie Garcia III told analysts to “stay tuned.”

Carvana was one of the theorized "delivery partners" that Slate vaguely mentions. Theirs deals on used cars haven't been very good for a while now, but their purchasing and delivery system wass pretty solid and easy to use when I was buying my Spark.

A relationship with Carvana would certainly grease the buying experience. Or - I would not at all be surprised to see Carvana outright buy Slate.
Idk, when I was at Carvana, most of my coworkers weren’t knowledgeable about normal vehicles, let alone EVs.
would definitely help get them to customers tho.

Does this open up opportunities to trade your current vehicle around the time you can order a Slate, assuming a successful future partnership with Carvana? Also they have an established logistics and distribution network. Perfect for rolling out Slates at a location near you.

This is huge. I sure hope Carvana invested. I like how Slate controls what they need to control and outsources what others already have great solutions for. I have only 1 transaction with Carvana and it was 5 star.(Sold a vehicle to them outright in lieu of trading it in on my new vehicle)

THAT is totally how I want to pick up my Slate pickup, via the vending machine!

There are just Carvanna 39 vending locations per Google.

I have 4 within 250 miles of me. One is only 100 miles. I'm in.

I sure hope Carvana (or any other delivery service) doesn't tack on additional costs.

The FAQs have mentioned that there would be delivery to your door available at a cost. I'm guessing it would be similar to the delivery fees Carvana charges.

The closest Carvana to me is in San Jose, just a quick Uber ride away. Haven't been inside any dealership for many years now, new or used. Hopefully it's as simple as picking up a package from Amazon lockers. Scan the bar code on my phone, open a locker to retrieve a key, find my truck on the lot and drive off. 😳

Thank you Admin for fixing my posts.
