CLC teardrop as bed camper

Hi all, I own one of these: https://clcboats.com/products/clc-teardrop-camper

Given that I can tow it by hand on level ground, I am pretty sure the Slate will handle it. I see there’s and option for a hitch, does anyone know if that will include the trailer electric?

Also: It’s easy enough to pull the teardrop part from the trailer part, what do you all think would be needed to mount it in the truck bed?

Towing it will be fine. The only question is how much will it kill your range.

I haven't seen if there is a plug for a trailer included, but worst case, it's pretty easy to wire it into your brake/tail light circuit.

What a neat camper!! Based on its small aerodynamic footprint of the trailer, it shouldn’t impact range too much, especially if you have a flat back SUV. Any time you consider EV towing, I’d suggest watching the Aging Wheels video on it, link below. TLDR is that drag affects range significantly while weight has almost no impact.



Regarding mounting the teardrop to the bed, I guess you could do a redneck solution of cutting boards to make a false floor or rail to elevate above the wheel well intrusions, then ratchet strap it down to anchor points. Then there are more elegant solutions which are numerous…

Edit to discuss electric: Based on previous social media posts, it seems that they are offering frunk AC plug kits, though the load for the griddle they used was only 400W. I presume it is possible, whether DIY or through OEM solutions, to get an AC plug to the bed, and using a beefier inverter to get your desired output for your camper. Then, the question becomes how much load do you want to put on your 12v, which puts load on the ICCU, and we have seen what has happened to Hyundai’s ICCUs…

I'm actually surprised the hitch kit doesn't mention anything about wiring. It's obviously still early yet, but that seems like it should be a very obvious thing to have to include for something that's so DIY. Either all of the trucks would be wired by default or there should be a simple plug and play harness that would enable it. Seems to be another thing on the list of what we'll find out later this year.
