DC to DC home charging

Glad to see this is finally becoming a thing.
Let's hope the DC bidirectional chargers work without any special hardware.

I don't think this will work with Slate, it doesn't have V2L capabilities.

The only things I see about this product is dated 2023 and 2024, the announcement of a preorder opportunity about a year ago (the page it goes to is a 404 page). No reviews from end users.

I'd perhaps be interested as I've got a pole barn that I'm building with solar panels on it ... and this would be an ideal charger to use if it really existed.

At the moment it appears to be vaporware.

SolarEdge is well established in the solar photovoltaic market. I'm using their inverter & optimizer modules on a 10kW array that's in it's fifth year of production.

VTL uses an inverter to turn the pack voltage into 120/240ac.
DC to DC charging uses the same pins as DC fast charging. Which is a direct connection to the battery.

I'm all set on inverters and such. What intrigued me about this device was the possibility of doing DC-DC.

I'm not so concerned about V2L or V2G ... just the idea of going directly from the array to the vehicle. But if this is talking directly to the battery pack it may have the ability to force a sort of V2L capability out of whatever vehicle it's attached to ... which is cool. But the fact that they don't have any real examples in the wild two years after hyping it is not encouraging.

Yeah I saw that. I guess I misspoke (mistyped?) and I understand that to mean that the truck won't have an AC-DC inverter onboard to be able to provide an AC output.

I meant that if this Enteligent DC-DC unit works by interfacing directly to the battery pack it may be able to force a bi-directional flow of DC power - which IT could then through its own inverter direct to the home or back to the grid. Making a sort of quasi-V2H or V2G.

Nothing ever gets a direct connection to the battery cells. All charging goes "through" the vehicle's BMS. DC charging requires negotiation between the BMS and the charger to determine power limits, voltage profiles, etc. before any power is routed to battery cells. V2H and V2G with off-board inverter hardware involve additional DC charging protocols that have to be supported by the BMS. There are V2L/V2G protocol standards for on-board inverters connecting to bi-directional EVSE, but I'm not sure the same is true for DC connection to an off-board inverter.

That would be cool. I mean, how would that work? Wouldn't the charge voltage have to equal or exceed the battery pack voltage?

This would indicate to me that it functions without one.

Not sure if this available in the US but it's interesting to see what's possible.
