I assume everyone who has completed the preorder process, is getting emails from Slate with this message: "Now's the perfect time to explore accessories, tweak your Slate design and get your perfect Slate dialed in."

I see all the accessories, but I'm wondering what the pricing represents. Is it the price to have that accessory installed prior to delivery, or maybe to have the accessory shipped with your blank Slate for DIY installation after delivery (saving shipping costs later)? And what about ordering accessories post delivery for DIY installation, will there be shipping costs - seems likely?

Answers to these questions will help me with the "dial in" part for sure. So I asked them via Slate chat today. The answers were the same, "That's a great question, we will have more details as we get closer to production." I hope the answers are well in advance of the order period (December for me according to Slate). Please post any different answers you may have on this thread.

As far as we know, those are prices without installation, and may be without delivery charges. Many accessories will be coming from 3rd parties, and so will definitely not ship with the truck.
Trucks will likely be shipped by rail then car carrier, it's unlikely they would pack boxes in the beds of parts for each order. More likely the parts will be shipped through whatever carrier makes most sense for the size/weight of the packages, or even possibly through amazon's distribution. Some companies use Amazon for fulfillment, even if they don't actually sell through amazon. In that case you might be able to order some accessories and get them next day.

Based on the FAQ it sounds like the pricing is likely just for the accessory and then there is an additional cost to get it installed. However, it seems that you can get some accessories installed before you take delivery. Here is what the FAQ says:

You can choose how and where your accessories get installed:
  • DIY: easily install accessories at home with Slate U, our library of video tutorials and helpful how-to content.
  • Before delivery: get select accessories installed at the Slate delivery partner. All other accessories are shipped directly to your home or a RepairPal location.
  • At a service partner: buy accessories before or after delivery and get them installed at your local Slate service location.
