Does anyone know how to/want to help build a Slate mod for BeamNG.Drive?

I had started modeling my own Slate in Automation, if you’re familiar with the program. Automation has a good vehicle building interface that can be exported to Beam. The thing with Automation exports is that their default collision models are pretty garbage compared to any of the built-in vehicles in Beam, and some of the higher end Repository mods.
Beyond exporting issues into Beam, the last time I used Automation, an EV drivetrain was not an option, which adds a layer of complexity to the process.
None of these problems are impossible to fix, it just takes some technical knowledge of the source files which power users of Beam (of which I am not) are familiar with.

Okay! How far along are you? Just interested about how long it would take to go from 0 to a real mod.

Beam.NG Drive is a driving simulator game that is known for having very realistic driving dynamics, soft body crash physics, and an open world design that is easy to mod and play around with.

It is a bit of a niche game, but its enthusiasts are way into it.

Here is an example video of people subjecting their cars and crash test dummys to all manner of increasingly improbable crashes. Note that the crash realism can be quite good if the vehicle model is made well.

I spent maybe three hours on modeling and I would say I was about halfway there with the exterior. I hadn’t started interior modeling. Regrettably, Automation doesn’t like you deviating much from their base vehicle shapes.

If what we have been told is true, and Slate will be releasing CAD files of all of their customizable components, I would find it reasonable to assume they will release a model of the whole exterior. So if you could take some CAD files from the exterior and interior, you may have a great and super accurate starting point. And I imagine it’s gotta be decently easy to handle the engine stats in the resource file as there isn’t the same power and step gearing to account for.
Of course, this still doesn’t make it easy to get the physics modeling in. It would be cool if we could get Slate and Beam to collab.

I remember getting a license back before it was even on steam. My poor laptop couldn't handle the soft-body physics and the game would barely run. Was barrels of fun being on the cutting edge of videogame physics at the time though, seeing full frame flex on that pickup truck going over washboards.

The Slate Truck will be the first vehicle that I own! :D
BUMP

If my name, pfp, and signature are of any indication, I NEED THIS MOD NOW!!! :CWL:

I would financially support such a project! 💲💲💲I sure am glad to see another BeamNG fan here!
