We’re talking just eight horsepower here, and a standard top speed of a mere 19 MPH. Juice comes from a little 5.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and the Topolino sports a modest range of 46 miles. Granted, there is a quicker version coming. Fiat’s planning to launch a street-legal kit this autumn that raises the top speed of the Topolino to a dashing 25 MPH. Enough to keep up with city traffic, but don’t you dare try to take one of these on the interstate.

It's cute, but that's not a car; or a truck. It's not "from the bottom" pressure as a commuter vehicle for people who need an affordable car, it doesn't have utility, and while it has charm, it doesn't have Slate's "customization" focus, which makes the aesthetic appeal much narrower.

(Not a battery-in-the-floor, RWD, 30-60 optimized sort of fun to drive, either.)

Edit: I realize, on reflection, the OP may have been at least partly joking/sarcastic.

The Autopian mentions a planned "street legal" version that'll go 25 mph. If this qualifies as a new "cheapest EV", it would make cheaper EVs qualify retroactively. It's not really a car. Autopian claims it actually is a good value "golf cart" though.

problem already solved. 1k conversion kit juices speed to 25mph making 'er street legal on residential roads.

It’s an LSEV doesn’t count, when people said Slate was the cheapest EV. They meant Cheapest Electric Passenger Vehicle that needs to actually need Safety Regulations.

Pressure on the Slate? Nah.

But it's more pressure against ICE. Just like Arcimoto. None of these vehicles actually compete against each other, they just offer another EV choice in their own realm. The more Arcimotos and Topo Gigio's I see the better.
