Has Slate or anyone else stated how long of a 5' wide roll will be required to do a complete wrap?

Hasn't been stated. Slate plans to sell you precut pieces, so they can optimize cuts and minimize waste.
Traditionally I expect you need the length of the truck x2, + the width x2, + some for the hood and roof and some % for going past the panels and trimming. With Slate and the registration lines, you don't need nearly the 5 foot width, so if cut properly the feet needed probably drops a lot.

However it will be cheaper to buy it by the roll and waste the rest

Will it? If most of the Slate is done with pieces considerably narrower than 5", there may be significant waste using a roll. How much does a roll 40 feet or so long cost, of quality wrap?

How much does this have to cost?

Here's a cheap example: ULINE COLOR TINTED STRETCH WRAP @ $26/roll; 7 colors to choose from - 8 if you include clear.

Who will be the first to try? šŸ™‚

I’m hoping to do PPF as opposed to vinyl for the longevity. Vinyl well maintained and garage kept is going to last 3-4 years. While PPF should, under the same conditions, should be more like 7-8.

Of course I may not have the truck 7-8 years, so there is that. 😊

As far as material needed, this thing is relatively small and being as it will be my first DYI wrap a full roll will be my choice. That way I have several ā€˜do overs’ included.

That's polyethylene stretch wrap - think saran wrap, but the heavy industrial variety for securing packages to be shipped - not cast vinyl paint protection film.

I mean, you can try it on your Slate... but you might be the first, I'm not quite that cheap. The cheapest actual vinyl wraps are about $250 to $300 for a 5x50' roll, which should be enough to do a Slate:

https://www.amazon.com/50ft-Gloss-Pearl-Blue-Vinyl/dp/B0FJXL3PWY

Though realistically you're looking more in the $500 range for a name-brand high-quality film.

The vinyl sites I looked at are recommending 5x50' for midsize pickups like Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, or 5x40' for smaller hatchbacks that are closer to Slate dimensions. I wouldn't buy a 40ft or try to force even a 30' roll to fit (maybe with a separate piece for the roof) without measuring and detailed planning, but I feel pretty safe in assuming 50' will be enough.

That's the thing, using wrap off a roll, you end up in the $500 range for high quality. Just looking at the distance around the truck and adding a bit for hood and roof you get into that 40-50 linear foot range. If pieces were custom pre-cut, it goes a lot farther. Except for the hood I don't think any pieces will use more than half of that 5 foot width. DIY off a roll may end up with more material cost due to scrap waste than getting the custom cut pieces from Slate.
