I'm putting a Sony head unit in mine for a few reasons:
1. I already have it in my current car.
2. Android Auto is pretty easy for listening to music.
3. A screen for maps.
4. For my subwoofer.
5. I can't leave anything alone.

I'm thinking that if I do an in-dash unit, I'm doing to make the brackets and bezle fit behind the dash panels. That way if I don't want to see the screen I can flip down the panels and have my blank dash.

There are several under dash DIN and radio boxes for $20-$50. I like the "mechless" head units without a CD player. They are cheap, support Bluetooth phone, have a microphone, and they have a little more room in back.

Over on the Rivian forum they have a 29 page rant thread about the R2 having no radio.
I guess if I paid that much for a car and it had no radio I would be disappointed too.

It's been decades since I installed any stereo gear in a car. I need to put new radios in the TR6 (which is either broken or just not connected to the beat up speakers in the back) and the Corvair (which is original AM-only and missing the antenna and the speakers), so I should be pretty well practiced by the time the Slate gets here. if ever.

But what about my collection of about 500 CDs that need to be resurrected? The CD player is a must have.
