If I buy my Slate as an SUV can I convert it to a truck with no extra parts?

But see, most people don't want to argue with a moron. hahahaha
IDK, I must keep returning to manufacturing for some reason, haha.

I am watching all this with interest. I build cars for a living… I have the ability, tools, lift access, shop space, you name it.

When Slate came out of stealth mode, I was all in on the modularity and DIY ethos. I had plenty of time on the weekends for projects of all sorts.

Fast forward to today: I have an infant, and there is hardly a spare moment in the day for me to brush my teeth, much less apply wraps or install an SUV kit. I’m sorry to say it, but if Slate will put that thing together for me it would be a huge help.

I agree with your assessment on the upgraded wheels & tires, that you get the one set you ordered, simply based on the delta cost. But what doesn’t make sense is they claim installation is at an “advanced level.”

Simply put, if Slate does the install prior to delivery, that is irrelevant.
all suspension, wheel, and tire options are marked as professional installation, probably from a l
That’s like asking Burger King to give you a discount because you get your Whopper with no mayo.

They have a process and it takes extra effort for them to remove something just for you.

Ok, let's hash this out:
  • I order the slate truck along with the squareback kit, a/t tires and lift kit, a wrap, and some fancy headlight covers
    • I have the option for the squareback kit and a/t tires and wrap to be installed by Slate, the covers don't have that option because they are in the purely DIY category so they ship to me.
    • I choose for the kit and tires and wrap to be installed by Slate for $1000, so I go through the process of choosing a third-party partner near me.
    • depending on their availability to install within the queue of regular stuff + slate things along with scope of my install, select an available day and time. because i'm doing a lot of stuff at one time, it says i have to leave it there for one business day, and automatically offers for an uber pickup and dropoff time. i can opt out of the uber too. Slate then arranges for the applicable parts from different suppliers to all be shipped to the installer well ahead of my appointment.
  • I receive the headlight covers in the mail. I don't know why but I like X's as headlights.
  • Slate delivers the blank slate directly to my home on a flatbed. I get so excited I install the headlight covers the same day.
  • Materials arrive at the third-party partner at different times, but there's a green light for my appointment time and this triggers an email.
  • I get an email letting me know ahead of my appointment that I need to make sure there's adequate room in the SUV setup (dont bring my family) so that I can haul the oem tires home + bulkhead in it or make accommodations to haul it home otherwise.
  • Three days later is my appointment so I head to the partner and drop it off, uber takes me home, while they do the things and as a courtesy charge on a level 2 that Slate installed for them to top me off while the changes are being made. Wrap is on, they have simple repackaged packaging for all original equipment (bulkhead and bits and pieces for the truck conversion, suspension things) to be handed off to you in a marketed way, and put plastic covers with the slate logo on it on the wheels so they dont get your slate suv all weird inside.
  • i get a call/text that my slate is ready, so they arrange for an uber to pick me up then i drive home in a slightly lifted yellow suv and slate doesn't have to worry about the logistics/storage of original equipment

From all the clues, it seems as tho if you order a "factory SUV" it will be an SUV from the factory, so no worry about install.
Also, congratulations! My 3rd is almost here, it gets easier or harder.. not sure, but it's worth it.

You simply adjust. At number 3, we went from man defense to a drop back zone.

Do I have this right?

A factory-converted SUV won't ship with the parts that were removed so it can be converted back to a pickup unless you buy the parts separately.
Yes, but small addition, it seems that the truck parts won't ever be installed on the SUVs. The line gets to that point of constitution and then split into "4 trim lines" as someone at Slate said. (The CEO if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on that).
They probably decided that they needed to get the factory SB-SUV sub 30k so they decided to factory built the SUVs and not include the truck parts. It would be a hard sell if it was $25,000(Truck) + $5500(SUV kit) + $500-1000(3rd parts install).
I've also noticed that the new factory validation trucks have even less SUV parts, such as the glass hinges.

So far the SUV kits have been the only thing mentioned as a "factory install" if you choose and everything else is DIY or basically being done at a shop.
