I was more interested in how thorough he was going into the fine print details of requirements for the creature comforts on the Ford.

The YouTuber went into the fine print for all those creature comforts in the Ford Fathom, and all of them basically require subscription fees on top of a $50/month basic subscription for the required telematics.

Not to mention the cost to repair, at a Ford dealership only, all these creature comforts.

I think the sad thing is that Ford is completely capable of making a great vehicle, but my opinion is that they have their hands in too many cookie jars. One of the things that draw me to Slate is that I feel cautiously optimistic that given the time and lack of parts compared to other vehicles, I could strip it down to the frame, put it back together and possibly still have warranty. I truly wish Ford well, but they lost me a while back with many of their business decisions.

I don't make money with my car, it's an ongoing expense that I want to minimize as much as possible.

In talking to a friend about inexpensive transportation in general, he said: "I don't even want the car. I just want the ride."
I have pre-ordered a Slate, promised for Q2 of '27. What I really want is the ride or the service to carry my stuff around. The status symbol of a Goliath pickup is nauseating, especially with their "big grille-itis". That's disgusting. The small grille (if you want it) and round headlights of the Slate are refreshing.

That guy definitely has a grudge against Ford.

1. One of the 'services' he complained about is your cell service for Android Auto - you already have that.
2. Tesla charges for FSD, so Ford charging for BlueCruise isn't outlandish.
3. "truck stuff" -- very few truck owners go off-roading and camping so that was pushing it with AWD and comforts.
4. V2L -- don't care never going to use it.
5. I remember when a 'half-ton' truck was good enough for everybody.

As far as looks and styling, Slate beats the Ford by a mile.

Well, Ford has not released anything other than name, price, and some leaked disguised vehicle footage. Strategically done to cool off public interest in Slate and try to minimize the impact of Slate's probable first-to-market influence.

It seems that people have conveniently forgotten the Volkswagen Bug in the 60's and 70's. They came in when cars were too big and too inefficient with minimal creature comforts and a very simple design. They sold like crazy because they could be manufactured for very cheap.

I expect the Slate to be that kind of disruptor.

I think people who appreciate a simple vehicle don't go around talking about it much.

Same goes to people concerned about their privacy. I expressed a concern about the upcoming mandated driver-watching camera law and learned to just keep opinions about that kind of thing to myself. Fortunately the most offensive comment appears to have been deleted now.

My wife was looking for a new to her vehicle went to a Ford dealership since that's what we both drive and a used car priced at 24k with their 1.99 % interest rate for 60 months came out to $512 a month we both looked at each other and said nope if that's what the market is like now we would rather drive what we have until the wheels fall off.
