Is any one planning to use any ham radio gear in their Slate? (I am!)

...but I wonder about grounding and cable routing. I am planning both a mobile HF rig and a 2M/70CM dual band. I can't wait for ev mobile QSOs!

Yeah, the 6M whips are a bit long. for vhf/uhf I have a couple of these KG-2/70-CX-PL (https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-000530) that work really well - and I like that I don't need to penetrate the body for the install! For HF I have a Icom AH-4 feeding what ever suits me at the moment.

I’m seriously thinking about building a good communications/loadout setup in mine. I haven’t really gotten into the ham radio scene yet, so I’m not super fluent in all the terminology, but a lot of people I work with in the UAV world are into radio, RF, antennas, and comms gear. It honestly makes me jealous and has me wanting to learn more.

Right now I’ve mostly been building out my EDC/truck packs with gear that can mount to T-track, MOLLE panels, etc. I could definitely see a mobile radio setup becoming part of that system, especially for trail use, road trips, emergencies, or just learning the hobby.

Most defiantly, waiting to see the dash depth but also ordering the center consul so may use that. Will use IC-5100 or 5200 (if it ever get released ) & Elecraft KX3, but depending on space may go to a all mode HF-UHF-VHF all in one

I currently have a 706mkIIG, but I still use the K2 I built myself 25 years ago for my home base station. I'm definitely considering a KX3 - it'll probably fit very well! 73, de KR6AU

I'm in Camp Motorola(tm), so I'm probably looking at an APX install with an O9 control head right on the dash. A mix of some commerical radio systems I'm a part of as well as some ham work.

At least the 12v is nice and easy to access right in the frunk - shouldn't be too hard and isn't very far to route to the dash and into the cab!

Yeah, I'll be sticking a half wave for VHF/UHF somewhere. I imagine HF will be tricky with the Slate, and I've never had much interest in doing HF mobile anyway.

I have 2/70 ham, GMRS and Meshtastic in my Jeep now, plus an extra antenna mount and place for an additional radio if I want. I've used it for a 927MHz, HF and CB before.

But for the Slate I think I'll modify a radio to do both GMRS and ham and stop there. Meshtastic is fun but it's really pretty useless and I don't really need anything other than GMRS for off-roading with people who use it and ham for fun.

Transceiver - portable.
Aviation handheld - Use it as a RX for NOAA weather, TAF, ASOS/AWOS....
I keep this in my flight bag for emergency in case the plane's comms go down or lose battery/alternator.

I plan on putting in ham and gmrs radios. I have had my ham license for a couple of years but I just have a baofeng at the moment. I plan on getting something better once I get the Slate and maybe see what others use and recommend in their builds (so please post your installs everyone). I also want to make my Slate a mobile meshtastic station.

A dirty truck is an honorable truck. Mine will eventually have "traces" of chickens, goats, bunnies, and dogs. It is why I ordered the all weather mats! 🤣
