Every slate rolls off the line the same. That, to me, is part of the cost effectiveness. If you really need power windows ,add them later. I doubt you'll miss them enough to mess with it. Adjusting the passenger mirror is one and done for me. I only plan on loaning it to people to irresponsible to adjust their mirrors .The difference between power, no power windows, mirrors ,is another wire harness in each door where presumably none exist.KISS

As somebody interested in the Slate, and the Fathom, and the Telo, and currently driving a Maverick...

I've never felt a need to defend any of them. Ask me about my Maverick, and I'll give you the good, bad, and the ugly. I'm not here to convert anyone. It's a piece of metal. It can defend itself by selling well and being profitable (or not).

It seems to me that online forums are no different than a bunch of teenage boys sh-t talking cars back in the day. You dish it out and you take it. Sometimes the chat is serious. Sometimes you're just busting each other's b-lls.

No, I'll take that back. Back in the day that group of kids was very diverse. The thing about the Web is that these car sites have become very insular. That's good and bad. Good because you can do a deep dive into a vehicle. Bad because a lot of times there's a "KEEP OUT" sign for anyone who doesn't conform to the approved line of discourse.

This site and the others sometimes get way too defensive. Way too thin-skinned. People seem to have gone overboard in making a piece of metal critical to their sense of self. It's a frigging car. Do you get defensive over your toaster?

I think part of this problem is people seeing discourse as "Defending". Maybe Scooter's response wasn't for me, but if the Slate is bad, then it's bad. If it's good, it's good. It has one thing going for it that I prioritize very highly over other manufacturers at least.


Maverick and Fathom would be on the shortlist if Ford would leave me alone. That's a principle that is really hard to break at the price points Ford asks.

The Blank Slate is a BLANK Slate!!!! how freakin American is that? WE get to make the choices. If something, some item matters, our choice if and how much to spend, not forced to accept someone else’s choices. A feature to be celebrated, the shortcoming aspect more a reflection on the person thinking so. In a sense, wantingSlate to make the choice is just a lazy approach. Sure, Slate could offer a range of choices ranging from None to Extravagant and maybe at some point they do, but at this point choices reflect a cost and Slate should be lauded for taking the low cost approach. No need to defend their intelligence.

Isn’t there some expression, you can’t fix stupid? No point to even try. if people can’t fathom intelligent choice, their loss.

Maybe they’d be happier if no Maker? Then again they seem to thrive on expressing their disappointment and defending that disappointment ad nauseam. Slate is still a work in progress, maybe some patience out of respect for the fine job they are doing.

It could be that State has fewer orders than expected, or production is forecast to be better than expected or Slate is adjusting their under promise and over deliver policy.

Do you think it is rational to repeatedly complain because work is progressing but not to your pace? When Slates are ready to be ordered, then what’s missing in Maker becomes a valid concern.

All true, but it would be confidence inspiring to know either of the three scenarios you've mentioned is the cause. If it is fewer pre-orders than expected (worst case), fine, let's understand that metric and the possible corrections for it.

I think is also very likely (and I am NOT pointing at anyone in this forum) that some people post to roast. They say something to inflame others because they just want to joust on the internet with a random stranger and what they like. To each his own. The practical matter is this is and should be an open forum. That being said, don't feed the trolls. There are some obvious posts and posters that can be seen to do nothing more than cause chaos. Its not why I'm here.

It could be a 4th scenario of "wait-and-see". That is fine too. The situation that is going to sell the Slate to a broader market is real reviews by real owners on forums where there no agenda to get clicks and make money. And the second driver for increased sales will be the performance of the FN in the commercial fleet market.
