So I'll actually be using this for truck stuff. I plan on using that space for:

• Hours and mileage logs
• Extra clean t-shirt
• Safety and PPE for my volunteers (masks, goggles, ear plugs, gloves)
• Durable snacks

Coda thought: when I grew up in the midwest, we called it the "glove compartment." I'm not sure if that term is used anywhere else.

I'm well aware of Slate's position on being basic. I'm sayin that a radio has been standard for like 70 years. It's not new tech, and if anything it's becoming outdated tech. Trying to sell storage space at the expense of a radio seems a silly, and bad, sell.

This is the ethos of Slate. That dash is BLANK. You can do anything you want with it. The radio isn't missing, it just hasn't been added yet. I don't think I want a terrestrial radio. But you do you. that's literally the whole point.

If you think all cars should have a radio, you get to choose one that's exactly to the spec you want. Might be $29.99 or $700. I'm glad they gave us each that choice.

Also, adding even a "basic" radio to the Slate bill-of-materials has a lot of tails to it. Every component requires the involvement of engineering, testing, validation, documentation, testing, purchasing, etc. Nothing is "basic" or "simple" at production volumes and everything adds cost.

Re the storage space, I did ask Slate about it and got the response in this thread - not much info but she did say "some" of the space is taken up by the audio. My guess is they are aware of this potential issue and trying to maximize space without complicating the cabling or raising the cost.

I, eventually, will put in a “stereo”, it will be headless. A Bluetooth receiver, amplifier, speakers. Except for the mounted speakers everything else is under the seats. All I’ll need is my phone. AI helped me with the idea an set up. I just need to get hands on to see what I’m working with.

This could be a good solution, possibly very good.

If you like BT it's a good idea that seems workable. Something like

• Bluetooth Receiver -> Amplifier
• 2-way speakers in the doors
  • Mid/bass drivers down low
  • Tweeters up high near the A-pillars
• Powered subwoofer behind the seat
