My generator will probably get more "miles" on it than my Slate.

DTE and Consumers are the privatized regional monopolies that run the electrical grid in Michigan, Bob and Shrink are fellow Michiganders who suffer from their service. Bribing the legislature for rate hikes every year while neglecting aging infrastructure, too cheap to bury any lines in a state full of trees and snow/ice storms, and winters where your plumbing will freeze if the power goes out and you don't have a generator means that many, many Michiganders are not fans.

Don’t mistake them as two companies either. I pay one bill… both are recipients of my money. That’s called collusion.

Kvermeer nailed it.

As a WFH guy with grown kids, I also don't leave the house very often. So when you have to have a generator running for FOUR DAYS in a suburb because the power grid sucks, it's probably going to get more wear and tear than my Slate.

Alternatively, at least the generator doesn't have to deal with Michigan roads.

Man this state is going down hill.
End rant.

All the better reason to get an "off grid" or hybrid solar setup. We have an EG4. We started with the inverter and batteries (for battery backup) and added solar later.
Even without solar we could run our whole house with a 2000w generator running during the days charging the batteries.
And no generator when sleeping is nice.

2 2024 Mavericks.
Southwest MI here my fees and cost are $100 a month and my electric is about $90. So $190 a month for a small house. AEP, and I'm only 3 miles from a nuke plant.
