Do you mean the bevel? Because the controls themselves don't look much different to me.

Also, my current car (from 2015) has the same sorts of controls, as did all my previous cars. I don't recall ever seeing a separate "Heat" button. I assume that's something new for EVs since they don't have that massive heat generator under the hood?

The knobs have a white line for the setting point, which I like. The wording and font have changed. No more "push", but it looks like you still have to push it to get heat, A/C or recirc.

I’ll be darned! If those cabin temperature controls stay as pictured, I’ll be able to stay in my proper lane once again. The touch screen in my Mach E has bedeviled me now for two years. The nonsensical buttons in the Honda even more so. I’d be over the moon if they would put floor vent doors and wing window vents in someday. For you youngsters, you used to open these by hand to get fresh air into the vehicle.

Definitely like having a button to turn off heat. Tesla doesn’t have that and in cold weather I turn the temp setting as low as it will go until it just says LO to prevent heat from being used.

My Equinox EV has both screen controls and physical knobs and buttons below the screen.

What the Slate Truck needs is a tail gate that can lock open at the same height as the top of the 2x6 bed boards.

And if it doesn't, I'll rig something up to force it like I did on my S-10.

They killed it in the design of that stereo.

It's clear The Slate is taking cues from legends of industrial design like Dieter Rams

Exactly, on an EV, heat is something you specifically have to call for, since the waste heat from the batteries and the motor isn't enough to heat the cabin, so having a discrete button for it makes sense. On an ICE, the heat is "free" since it is being made all the time, all you have to do to get some is open the valve to the heater core (on my 1997 Tacoma, sliding the lever from "cool" to "warm" physically opens the valve, no button or controls needed).
