New pics show updated center console, new speaker (radio?) dashboard panel, carrying plywood with tailgate up

Did anyone else notice these updated pics on the Slate home page. That's an updated center console image, a new speaker (radio?) panel, and they no longer show the plywood with the tailgate down, probably because they moved the brake light to the tailgate (can you legally drive with the tailgate down if it hides the brake light?).

I would note that the plywood photo is very much a rendering, as the grain pattern wraps and repeats along the edges of all the sheets. Also, even Home Depot doesn't sell plywood that warped.

Well, their marketing strategy seems to be working, they got us all talking. Although the demographic of people that it is targeting seem to be limited to the people here, hard core Slate enthusiasts and dedicated Slate curious people who likely already have reservations. They are probably trying to make sure we turn our reservations into pre-orders.

USB-C is a lot more versatile, is on most consumer electronics released within the last decade and on all consumer electronics released within the last couple of years. If you really need it, Apple makes a cable that goes directly from USB-C to 3.5mm

Yes I have that adapter because my phone is new enough to not have the 3.5mm OUTPUT audio jack, and I’m aware that’s the reality for new phones and computers. For audio INPUT, I thought 3.5mm was still standard for stereo speaker systems. (I’m not gonna nitpick Slate about such a small thing, I just thought it was an odd choice.)

It's actually cheaper than I expected. A true hi-fi stereo system would cost way more than that. Without knowing anything about the audio quality of Slate's system, no one can say whether that's a good deal or not.

The speaker setup in the maker was nicer than what I was expecting, especially the bt controls. My original plan for for a double-din carplay setup. But the more I think about it, a portable speaker and an mp3 player would work better for me. The cab is small and with no engine noise it probably won't take much to fill it with decibels.

This way the in-car sound system can become the outside sound system. It always bugged me to spend on a decent setup and still need something else once parked.

Now to find a decent speaker with aux-in so that I don't have to do the bluetooth dance every time.
