You could drop the Slate into 1976, put fake exhaust tips on it, wrap it so it looks like cheap paint, and nobody would notice it.
Where's our chrome grill and bumper package, Slate!

Hmm. Let's do the math. Call a Slate $30K. OK, that's 667,000 free Slates. Oh, and the total reported losses across all OEMs and suppliers is way greater than $20 billion.

That's more Slates than the entire state of Wyoming. We could have given a free Slate to a whole state. That's capitalism for you.
Less optimistically (because capitalism), that means they have to sell 667k Slates at $30k each, ignoring materials and operating costs, for their investors to recoup their money. That makes me a little nervous...

Accessories and replacement parts. I’m guessing the profit margin is higher on accessories than vehicles.
How impactful, who knows.
Also, you’re maths not mathing here. Let’s say the profit per Slate is $3500, which puts them about in-line with Ford and GM. It would take 2 2/3 years at full 150,000 unit capacity to pay back the $1.4 billion to investors. A bit longer to give them back profits on that money. If slate is successful, this will have been a great investment.

>> the Slate is the most normal looking one of the bunch

American pickup buyers are famously styling-conservative and highly conformist. Slate could have done a much more efficient design in many ways, but they saw what happens to any truck that doesn't look like every other truck.

Shit Today! I just saw a clean looking Sonoma and had to do a double take. First thing I noticed was the single cab sticking out like a sore thumb.
