On the fence about a few of the upgrade accessories…

For those of you who are going for the bumper upgrades is it just for the asthetic or is it more for the safety/protection? And for the lighting upgrades are you getting the upgrades for the fun of it or are you hoping to increase visibility? And lastly what is a door bolster and what is it for? In the pictures it appears to already have a door bolster and door armrest so why you would need to add these on is lost on me. Thanks in advance for your input!😊

Not only "just like" the console, it is actually the same part! This has been proudly mentioned by the engineers. It fits within their "minimal parts" philosophy. The color cover on the center console fits the armrests.

That's why somebody on the board joked about having dirty elbows, so they'll buy the side armrest color cover kit to replace the center console and driver side armrest over time as they wear them out.

I think it's just a fun-colored insert, not the whole part.

That threw me for a loop at first. I was wondering why all of the prototypes had the upgraded door pulls. Best I can tell, the door pull option is just a different colored insert.

I think the front bumper is ugly and they haven't said it'll be a stronger mount for a winch or anything so I'm avoiding it.

I may do the headlight upgrade once comparisons are revealed, but for now I'm only getting the bed light. Bed lights are very nice for when you're drinking in a truck bed.

The door bolster is already there, the option is just for a color.

I asked the Slate rep on their Chat about the Upgraded Bumper. I specifically wanted to know why the Spare Tire Carrier for the Upgraded Rear Bumper is $50 less than the one for the Standard Rear Bumper. I asked if maybe a mounting plate or other hardware was already included in the upgraded bumper. She said she didn't know but she'd check with the Slate team.

I waited for an answer on the chat as long as I could but she didn't get back with me. I'm guessing there's some feature on the Upgraded Rear Bumper that makes it easier/better for mounting the Spare Tire Carrier.

I assume the Upgraded Bumpers are mostly for looks since those options are listed in the "Appearance" category.

There cannot possibly ANY addtional safety/protection added with the bumper stuff; I think functionally the fronts may provide fog lamp housing, but other then that kind of thing, it's aesthetic, and lets be honest.... the vast majority of accessories are just that.

as mentioned by others, the door bolster is merely the hard plastic skin to colorize the standard door bolster, and also serves to color the optional center armrest. I intend to get almost no accessories, but depending on pricing, I would prefer to warm the cabin colors a bit, so the arm rest trim could get switched to the brown or green only to match earth tones elsewhere inside.


I don't mean to shame anyone for their desires to personalize and such, but I seriously don't get things like "Slatelets"... I mean, are we putting baseball cards in our bike spokes or something? How do the Slate execs promote these with straight faces? How many do they really expect to sell?

I think aesthetic things are just an easy way to show people visible "customization", which is sort of the main feature the "Slate Maker" has right now. More functional engineering stuff has more potential to change or disappoint people directly. They had power window kits before that have since been removed (people speculate they had a supply/regulatory problem).

I didn't "get" the Slatelets at first, but a lot of people seem to really like them!

Also notable that they've had 3D files available for Slatelets specifically, and that they're effectively a flat plate that clips onto the dash. Maybe a quiet way to help people to design some 3D printed projects using them as a "mount".

I'm really excited to get my first shift slatelet.

Seems like the Slate analogue to the rubber ducky/Jeep thing.
