This is the second thread that has had that bit, as I said in the other one, I'm 50/50 on whether that is true, it isn't presented as a new quote from Slate, may just be a mistake.

Mistake? Perhaps they are just rehashing the Detroit Free Press story, but here is another article from EVshift confirming the LFP battery on the standard range pickup.

It's not a good sign that this "other" article is identical to the previous one. Is it really another article or just the same one published in a different site?

The fact that this article originated in Detroit gives it an air of credibility. Isn't Slate HQ in Troy, MI which is a suburb of Detroit? Perhaps this publication is getting better, less guarded access to the insiders where a seemingly minor non-public detail is openly discussed.

You are just assuming, the part about the LFP battery was not in Quotes like some of the other statements from the CEO, all which were already known.
I would not take that article as gospel.
We should know more on the 24th. Be patient.

There must have been an advertising push that went to people who had been looking at trucks, EVs, etc. I had looked at articles about what EV trucks were available like a week before, and been disappointed that they were all big and expensive.
So I was getting ads about Slate or maybe articles pushed to me probably right after announcement, and reserved within a few days when I actually clicked through and looked at posts about it and the Slate site.

I think this exact thing happened to me too. I was looking for an EV truck over a several-day period, bummed they were all so expensive and packed with crap I didn't want, and on 27 Apr stumbled on the Slate Reveal link. I reserved soon after watching the video, but was already several days "late" to the party. Before that, I had never heard of Slate.

Having got my Tundra in Nov and wife’s Ascent in Dec I definitely wasn’t in the market for a vehicle that Apr. i had been leaning more hybrid than BEV. A good friend was in the market, leaning towards a RAV4 PHEV, so out of curiousity had been casually researching. Not sure how or why but the Slate reveal video popped up. Didn’t even open it at first but read comments and googled. Intrigued I watched the video and made my reservation before retiring for the night. Been excited ever since. Yes, my friend got the RAV4, but he’s really interested in a Slate and likely one of the first to ride in mine.

The way I see it, the pivot to LFP chemistry on the base pickup is a strategic, last minute decision that can get the starting price below $25k. There is something “magical “ about an MSRP starting with $24,xxx. Everything we have seen, heard, and read indicates that the final production configuration was subject to change. There was no longer a valid business reason to stay with NMC when the federal tax credit (requiring US sourced components) was repealed. Slate is all about affordability, and understands that its customers are extremely price sensitive.

Ah good reasons!

I'd love LFP since I always charge my NMC to 100% at home (L2) or on the road (Tesla Supercharger).

Last February on a retirement forum someone briefly mentioned Slate. I checked it out and made my reservation. Who knows where I am in line. 140k?

Most of the users here seem to have jumped on it in the first few minutes. I know this is a self selected group, but jeez, I'm surprised by how quick the reservations came on, then dropped off.

Was there some sort of buzz in the EV world? Is that how ya'll got on so quick? I have never been anti-EV, but I'm also not seeking out EV. I found most of the models offered didn't fit my needs. So I guess I was just out of the loop, not paying attention. There have to be more people like me out there. Once they see them on the street, they'll wake up. I seriously think retired guys like me who putter around town without kids in tow will really find appeal in Slate. But we also don't sit on Instagram, Tik Tok or Facebook. We also don't easily succumb to FOMO. So we're sometimes blissfully clueless.

My thinking as to why the initial numbers soared so quickly is that at that moment the truck was a $19,000 something EV. Don’t forget the initial offering was announced as sub $20k (after $7,500 credit). It’s that factor that I think made the reservation line skyrocket initially.

Incentives did their job. Got the industry going and the consumers interested. I was an early skeptic, and now I'm looking because the infrastructure and breadth of offerings is now mature enough.
