Same here - without a test drive I'd be concerned about a non refundable deposit.

Does not sound right to take money and not allow a customer to test drive it.

I am torn between the Slate and Ford's UEV....

That $300 simply buys you the privilege to be in line early. Don’t have to pay it. Simply wait, waiting costs nothing and you get same privileges as every other non payer who didnt like the risk.

Those of us willing to pay, know the pitfalls, accept the risk. People posting here they can’t/won’t isn’t educational, just personal venting that they not only doubt Slate but likely don’t have faith in their own ability to weigh known facts when they become known.

Yeah, the recalls on my Bronco related to the backup camera not turning off when I shift out of low gear in the transfercase really scares the living shit out of me.

• Do-Not-Drive Advisory (Recall 26S36): Affects certain 2021–2026 Bronco Sport and Maverick models. Front lower control arm ball joints may fail, causing a loss of steering control. Owners are advised not to drive the vehicle and to contact a dealer for a free tow and repair
• Do-Not-Drive Advisory (Recall 26C07): Affects certain 2026 Transit, E-Transit, and Maverick vehicles. The brake pedal pushrod may detach, resulting in a sudden loss of service braking.
• Expedition Center Console (Recall 25S58): Affects 548K+ ExpeditionSUVs. The center console trim may bubble or peel, and the hazard has resulted in numerous injuries.
• F-150 Headlights (Recall 26C28): Affects certain 2018–2020 F-150s due to Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) remaining fully bright, causing glare.
• Multiple Models (Recalls 26V373000 - 26V376000): Over 125,000 vehicles (including F-150, Escape, Focus, and Fusion) are being recalled because previous repairs were conducted incorrectly, leading to gear problems, automatic window failures, and transmission clutch fluid leaks.

Sure. See below. To summarize, if Slate fails to deliver in the specified delivery window, you are entitled to a refund.

YOUR PREORDER DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH BELOW. By placing a Preorder, you acknowledge that the deposit is consideration for Slate’s reservation of production capacity, procurement of components, and scheduling on the assembly line.

Slate will refund your Preorder Deposit at your request in the following circumstances: (a) Slate cancels your Preorder for reasons within Slate’s control, other than your failure to execute a Vehicle Purchase Agreement; (b) Slate is unable to deliver your Truck within the designated time slot; (c) your selected body style (i.e., SUV or Fastback) is unavailable during your delivery window; (d) a material change in the Truck’s specifications or the manufacturer’s retail pricing (“MRP”) after the date you placed your Preorder; or (e) applicable law requires a refund. That Bronco Sport and Maverick recall with the do not drive advisory is pretty egregious.
