Was the Slate site nuked from orbit? All the designs in my garage are gone....
No, my designs are still in my garage. Maybe log out and back in? Are you inadvertently using a different email?

I was also excited to see the email, I know I've seen more than enough to convince me to put down $250 more! I don't need to test drive it.

If it turns out it's a monstrously oversized vehicle, or a gas guzzler, or unrepairable, or full of plasticy electronic "luxury" gizmos that make it expensive to maintain, or stuffed with privacy-invading LTE trackers, then I won't buy it. But I'm pretty confident the Slate team won't build any of those things!

Conversely, if there's a minor annoyance like I don't like the power steering response curve or am unfamiliar with the weight of the accelerator, or if I don't like the feel of the door handles.... What am I going to do, go out and order a "Shale" that's a small, affordable, consumer-friendly EV pickup from a competitor with a slightly different steering geometry? No, the Slate stands alone, there's nothing even close to it.

If the window cranks still go the wrong direction, I AM OUT!

I think it's great that they're giving us 30 days to lock in the delivery window. Keeps it from being a mad FOMO rush to get in early. We'll have time to read and see everything they've put out and really feel good about the decision. Hopefully they'll have more public events and at least give some real automotive outlets access in time to do some detailed 3rd party reporting.

I'm a little lost on what the point of the early reservation was if we still need to pre-order. Are reservation holders who don't pre-order going to be any different from non-reservation holders?

Preordering with a non-refundable deposit by July 24 gets you in the first wave of deliveries. That could still be mid-2027 mind you.

Exactly. Will the pre-orders be moved ahead of the $50 reservation holders?

Has anyone bailed out and gotten back their $50?

You don’t get married on the first date, right? You need a test drive before you make a commitment.
No, but if I'm marooned on a desert island with the Skipper, the Professor, Ginger, Mr. Howell, Mrs. Howell, and Mary Ann, I don't need to spend years dating Mary Ann to know that she's the one for me. It's obvious. We'll work it out and can smooth over any differences that come up in the future.

The dating pool in the maintainable inexpensive customizable 2-door mini BEV pickup truck category is very, very limited, and I expect Slate would be a strong contender even if it were.

My $50 reservation was only a few weeks back, presumably > 160,000th. I received the email too. Clearly they are banking on a lot of people falling off, because there is no way they are delivering 160,000+ vehicles in year one. This is interesting. ... Where's my popcorn?

Actually, at my age Mrs. Howell is starting to look pretty good.

As somebody who waited twelve frustrating months between ordering and delivery of my Maverick, I have to caution you nice folks that it can seem like a loooooooong wait. And I had it easy - some people waited 24 to 36 months for their Mavericks.

Remember the clock in high school? How it slowed down when it reached five minutes till the end of the period? Or go back even earlier. Remember how long Christmas Eve was? I swear they slowed down the clocks the day before Christmas.

And we are way past the first date here, we've been analyzing Slate inside and out for over a year now. 😂
Perhaps, but it’s all been done virtually. Need to see it “in person” to make sure it’s love at first sight.

The email I got was a little different. Subject "The window to reserve a Slate is closing":
Slate Auto Pickup Truck Preorder Starts June 24 (email)! - How to Preorder Your Slate 1779990682578-7g

My plan has always been to let the initial rush die down and see what the situation is a year or two after launch, but as the time approaches it's tempting to just preorder.
