Nope. We have a simple financial plan:
1) I save for college 50:50 with the kid;
2) Kid makes wise decision on a college and ends up debt-free
3) I stroke a check for any left over college funds at graduation
4) I sign over whatever car they were driving in college.
5) Apron strings severed.

Slate slides in between 2 and 3 above. Rinse and repeat. I'm batting 1.0000 so far with this strategy.
