But the Ford UEV "threat" is real.
I don't think the Ford is even in the discussion unless they plan to opensource the repairs and warrantee work. I won't even consider a vehicle that locks me to the dealer. It's the difference between a Haynes T-Shirt that I can toss in the wash and a "fashion brand crew neck" that I have to have dry cleaned at 9$ a shot.

I'm confident this means even if you had no reservation , you could pre order it now, with Q2 delivery.
You don't need confidence, you can just click on the preorder button and see what it says. For me, if I want to make a new preorder I do not get a Q2 delivery. I get "2027".

That's not the same as paying. Ms Henderson needs to get to things.

It is the same... You are given the delivery estimate before you pay. That's what everybody gets.

I realize you and many others have strong feelings about regionality and such. Not saying you are wrong, but I'm not convinced there is evidence beyond circumstantiality.
The "coming soon" is a univeral default, surely we can agree on that?
I just got my new date…last quarter 2027. They said specifically because of logistics concerning Louisiana. I am a First Shift buyer.

Wow! They gave you an explanation. That's great, but sorry for your late delivery.

Slate's reservation agreement said:
"Your Delivery timing is determined by two factors: (1) the date and time of your original Reservation (for Reservation holders) or your Preorder (for new customers); and (2) when deliveries open for your confirmed delivery address or state of residence."
I'm glad to see they dropped opaque curtain and gave you an explanation. You are owed that.

Well, I mean, you're waaay over there. It should be so much easier to get one to me over here just across the River. Surely there's a RORO barge... or pontoon boat... or something. 😜

I'm also a First Shifter, with my reservation within hours of opening day, but I'm still in Club DWCS, Louisiana chapter, myself.

(I'd gladly pick up in Tennessee if that'd help. I think they're the nearest state with direct sales.)

I didn't realize NV was Tesla only. Looks like Phoenix would be the delivery hub if Vegas is out of the question.

Thanks for this reference. Good read. I had never bothered to do even cursory research on the widely varying state laws surrounding DTC consumer auto sales.

It's such a tricky topic. I can appreciate the dealers have some rights, and they can genuinely provide value on "both sides".

But the overall paradigm (in more states then I realized) that NO DTC is allowed, regardless of make is such an "anti-innovation" and consumer unfriendly concept. I am also very surprised at the number of states that ONLY exempt Tesla (or even EV only). Hard to understand why the same legal priniciples shouldn't automatically apply to others.

Its clear now why the Afeela couldn't launch here, robbing US consumers of another choice.

What a mess.

Congrats on getting into our First Shift program! That means you were one of our earliest preorders!

Based on your region, your delivery timing is likely going to be October - December 2027. You will see the official delivery timing updated in your account in the coming weeks.

We're growing our delivery service in phases based on state readiness and several other factors. Deliveries in Louisiana will begin in late 2027 and as an early reservation holder, you will be prioritized in that queue.

As you can imagine, launching deliveries is a big feat and we want to make sure our rollout is smooth for our manufacturing, logistics, and also customers.

I would also gladly pick up in Tennesse.

We don't allow direct sales in WA either (except Tesla, and more recently Rivian and Lucid), but my Slate date is 2nd quarter of 2027. I'm not even sure exactly how an online purchase of a new car is supposed to work in WA, but others have done it.

There is no reason to believe deliveries will be determined by the date the order was placed. From Slate's perspective, it will be far more useful to make deliveries by an algorithm that may include the popularity of electric vehicles in your area, existance of an authorized repair facility, the popularity of Slate's orders near you, and whether it's a primary or secondary car. It's not unusual for initial production runs of vehicles to have quality issues and/or not meet performance specifications. Slate might want to make early deliveries to folks nearest the factory, so if they need to send technicians to Slate owners, it's cost-effective.

There must have been a well established scheme of an adminstrative sale in Oregon (for example), then a transfer as a used vehicle into WA for those Lucid's and Rivians in the past years. Slate must be counting on doing the same. After all, there's no way WA gets more legislation to include Slate within a year.
